FISHERMAN ICE DERBY 2000 Promoted By THE FLY BOX Shapleigh,Maine Great East Lake saw 462 anglers hit the ice on February 13,2000,for a day of great fishing.Men numbered 380,with 26 woman and 56 children participating.Lake trout dominated the catch with a total of 79,followed by one Brown,no Rainbows and no Brookies. First prize (trophy and $408.00)went to Brian Ryea of Sanford,Maine,for his 25-3/4 inch Laker. Second prize was a 25-inch Laker worth $308.00(and a trophy)for Acton,Maine,angler Pholenix Senecal. Third place went to Tim Gerry of Waterboro,Maine,who caught a 24-7/8 inch Laker worth 208.00 and a trophy. The lone Brown was worth 408.00(and a trophy) to Steve Burrell of Sanford,Maine.That fish was 18 inches long. Participants also received door prizes that included 70 Heritage Traps and five 20 inch ice fish baskets. This ice fishing encourages and promotes women in the sport of fishing.The Fly Box donated a hand made Bottle Neck Basket to Karen Hart of Shapleigh,Maine,who was one of the ladies fishing the derby. Raffle: 20 inch ice fishing basket,five Heritage traps,5 inch spoon,ice swivels,ice spoon went to lucky winner,Charlie Matlods of Milton,New Hampshire, with the proceeds going to S.S.Y.S.A Dr. William Brinks, of Sanford,Maine. | |||||||||||||||||
