AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Chrysler Group is recalling 615 1999-2001 Dodge Viper
ACR and GT-2 Commemorative Editions vehicles equipped with optional equipment 5-point
racing seat belt harness. The harnes- ses may not meet the voluntary load specifications set

recall does not affect the three-point seat belt sys- tem that is standard on all Dodge Vipers,
including all ACR and GT-2 models. Dodge Viper ACRs and GT-2s are the only Viper

Recall Alert
MIAMI -- Burger King is recalling 400,000 “Rattling, Paddling River-
boat” toys given away to toddlers in its Kid's Meals. Metal pins
with plastic caps that attach the paddle wheel to the riverboat can
come out and pose a choking hazard. The recall was made in cooperation
with Burger King's marketing firm, Alcone Marketing Group of Irvine,
Calif., and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Although
there have been no injuries, Burger King said it has received 10
reports that the pin on the toy came out. One child was found with
the pin in her mouth, but her father removed it and she was not
injured. Alcone imported the toys for Burger King. The “Rattling,
Paddling Riverboat” toys are red plastic boats about 2 to 3 inches
across. The captain figure squeaks when it is pushed down. When the
boat is moved across the floor, beads in the boat's paddle wheel
rattle. Burger King restaurants nationwide distributed the toys in
January and February. Parents should immediately take the toy away
from children and call 800-661-9173 for instructions on returning
the toy for a free, replacement toy. Information also is available
at Burger King's web site at www.burgerking.com.

RECALL ALERT
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Double L Inc. is recalling about 180,000 multi
-purpose lighters. These lighters can leak butane when they are
ignited, causing an excessive burst of flame. This presents a risk
of fire and burn injuries to consumers. Double L has received five
reports of consumers suffering burns. The lighters are 10 1/2 inches
long and were packaged in a cardboard display sleeve under the brand
name "DIY." The brand name is not on the lighter. The lighters have
a black handle, red plastic trigger and on/off switch, and a silver
-colored metal barrel. A yellow label is affixed to the handle reads
in part: "DANGER: EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE...Made in China." The lighters
were sold nationwide at Joann Stores, Family Dollar Stores, Bill
Dollar Stores, and Hancock Fabrics from December 1998 to December
1999 for $1 to $2. Consumers should stop using the lighters im-
mediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full
refund. For more information, they can call Double L Inc. at (800)
253-1399 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (ET) Monday through Friday, or

RECALL ALERT
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Dura Kleen is recalling 459,000 night lights because
their electrical connections are loose, posing a shock and fire hazard.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said there have been no reports
of injuries associated with the night lights and the recall is pre-
cautionary. The night lights consist of a small fixture that uses a 5
-watt bulb and plugs into an electrical socket. The white base of the
night lights is imprinted with "Made in China for Dura Kleen USA Inc."
They have different colored shades -- including purple, green, yellow
and red -- with different designs, or decorative shades molded into
the form of religious figures. Discount stores nationwide sold the
night lights from March 1999 through August 200 for about $1. Consumers
are advised to stop using the night lights and to return them to place
of purchase for a refund. For more information, they can call the CPSC
at 800-638-2772.

RECALL ALERT
WASHINGTON -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 700,000 Mercury
Villager mini-vans and F-series trucks that may leak fuel, posing a
fire hazard. The 435,000 Villager mini-vans were manufactured from
1993 to 1998. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
said fuel vent hoses on some Villagers let air vent from the fuel
tank during refueling, creating a possible fire hazard. If the tank
is overfilled, cracks can develop in the vent hose and fuel in the
hose could leak resulting in a fire. Dealers will replace the vent
hose free of charge. Ford said it is notifying owners of the problems
by mail. In a separate action, Ford is recalling 291,733 1993 model
year F-150, F-250, F-350 and F-450 light duty trucks equipped with
crossover dual fuel tanks. NHTSA said a carbon steel fuel pressure
regulator can wear, allowing excessive pressure to develop in the
fuel system and damaging the fuel pump check valve. Fuel then could
be transferred from one tank to the other, resulting in a fuel spill.
Ford said it would replace the carbon steel pressure regulator with
a stainless steel regulator in May. Spokesman Mike Vaughn said there
had been no reports of fires, accidents or injuries as a result of
any of the problems.
Other recent Ford recalls:
-- 220,000 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer sport-utility vehicles
equipped with 4.0-liter engines. The automaker said there's a problem
with the throttle body that could cause the engine to surge. Dealers
will replace the original throttle body.
-- 100,000 1999-2000 Explorers with 3.27 or 3.55 axle ratios that could
exceed their designed top speed of 112 mph. Dealers will reprogram the
Power train Control Module.
-- 149,844 Ford Explorer Sport, Explorer Sport Trac SUVs and Ford
Ranger pickups, all 2000-2001 models, because the hood could fly
open while the vehicle is being driven.
-- 82,300 2000-2001 Lincoln LS cars, whose front suspension could
loosen. Dealers will inspect two ball joint attaching nuts and tighten
or replace them as necessary.
In addition, the automaker said owners of 495,000 2000-2001 Ford
Expedition, Ford Navigator, Ford F-150 pickups, Ford Taurus and
Mercury Sable vehicles will receive revised owner guide inserts
for securing child restraint seats to tether anchorages.

Recall Alert
TORRANCE, Calif. -- Bridgestone/Firestone is recalling more than
92,000 Firehawk GTA-02 tires installed as original equipment on 22,937
2000 and 2001 model year Nissan Altima SE passenger cars because the
16-inch tires can develop a surface crack. No injuries or accidents
have been blamed on P205/55R16 tires made at Firestone's plant in
Wilson, N.C. The North Carolina plant is one of the Firestone
facilities that made some of the 6.5 million ATX, ATXII and Wilderness
AT tires recalled last summer because of tread separation. The National
Highway Transportation Safety Administration has linked 174 U.S. deaths
and more than 700 injuries to tires in last year's recall. Nissan said
there had been no reports of tread separation involving the recalled
Firehawk tires. Nissan said a Firestone analysis of the GTA-02 tires
found the original width of the steel belt placed it too close to the
edge of the inside the tire and the tire's surface. The tires can
develop a crack at the bottom of the shoulder that can spread to the
completely around the tire and, in the worst cases, part of the steel
belt can be exposed. Firestone said the problem was limited to the
P205/55R16 Firehawk GTS-02 tire and that the company had already
changed the design to make the steel belts narrower. The tires also
were available as replacements in the United States, Canada, Puerto
Rico and Trinidad. The recalled tires have DOT (Department of Tran-
sportation) identification numbers W2T2 VF3 289 through W2T2 VF3 529,
W2T2 VF3 010 through W2T2 VF3 170 or W2T2 VF3 1800 through W2T2 VF3
4500 on the sidewall near the wheel rim. Owners of the affected Nissan
vehicles are being notified by letter. Firestone will replace the tires
with Bridgestone Potenza RE92 or Bridgestone Turanza EL41 tires at no
cost to the customer. For more information, customers can call Fire-
stone at 1-800-465-1904.
