AIM:
Introduction of
baulked take offs, go arounds, advanced emergency landings and revision
of previously learnt skills.
OBJECTIVE:
The objective in
this lesson is to revise previous lessons, and help the student acquire
the skills to perform accelerated stalls, cross control stalls, as well
as perform slips and advanced emergency landings. Other goals include:
the improvement of normal and cross wind take offs and landings,
with the addition of introducing baulked take offs and go arounds.
CONTENT:
1 - Pre Flight Briefing
2 - Review
of the following:
(a) Normal
and cross wind take offs
(b) climbs
at best rate and angle of climb - while maintaining visual and instrument reference.
(c) Power
off and on stalls imminent and full - while maintaining visual and instrument reference.
(d) Change
of airspeed and aircraft configuration - while maintaining visual and instrument reference.
(e) Emergency
procedures
(f) Normal
and cross wind landings
3 - Introduction
of the following:
(a) Baulked
Take offs
(b) Accelerated
stalls
(c) Cross
control stalls
(d) 180 and
360 Degree gliding approaches
(e) Advanced
emergency landings
(f) Side and
Forward slips
(g) Go Arounds
4 - Post Flight
Briefing and preview of following lesson.
METHOD:
Instructor will
conduct a preflight briefing, which will review the previous flights and
their associated manouvers. The instructor will introduce the student
to baulked take offs and landings. This will be followed by theory on cross
control stalls and accelerated stalls, as well as how to perform forward
and side slip. Next the instructor will cover emergency procedures
for the scenario of ADVANCED emergency landings. The student performs
a “walk around”and “pre flight inspection” of the aircraft. The student
performs the start up procedures and radio calls, followed by take off
and standard departure procedures. Once in the training area, the instructor
will then review the manouvers learnt from the pervious lesson (cross wind
operations, best rate of climb, best angle of climb, change in airspeed
and aircraft configuration ), following which the instructor will demonstrate
the new manouvers, stalls and emergency landing procedures as discussed
in the briefing. The student will then attempt these new manouvers
and emergency procedures in the training area and circuit as appropriate.
At the end of the flight lesson, the student will attempt circuit entry,
approach and landing procedures, finishing with parking and shut down procedures.
The flight will
be completed with a post flight review briefing and a preview of the lesson
to come.
EVALUATION:
The lesson is considered
successful if and when the student suitably completes the following:
- Smooth and prompt
stall recoveries with minimum loss of altitude,
- Unassisted normal
and crosswind take offs and landings.
- Accurately plan
and fly emergency landing patterns.
- Baulked Take Offs
and Go Arounds
- Maintains airspeed,
altitude and heading to within +/- 10kts, 100ft and 10 degrees respectively.
