AIM:
To develop the student’s
skills and competence in take offs, the circuit and landings. As
well as improving the student’s go around and landing techniqe.
OBJECTIVE:
On top of revision
of the previous lessons, the improvement of the student’s competence and
skills at taking off, flying in the circuit, and landing, through consolidated
practice. Also, improve and develop the ability of the student to
use slips during approach phase of flight prior to landing, and practice
performing go arounds.
CONTENT:
1 - Pre flight
Briefing
2 - A thorough review
of the following:
(a) Normal
and cross wind take offs
(b) Normal
and cross wind landings (touch and go, and full stops.)
(c) Forward
slips
(d) Go arounds
(e) 180 and
360 degree gliding approaches
(f) Advanced
Emergency landings
(g) emergency
procedures
3 - Post flight
Briefing and Preview of next lesson
METHOD:
Instructor will
conduct the preflight briefing, which will review the previous flight.
The instructor will go back over baulked take offs and landings (go arounds),
forward and side slip, glide approaches and Advanced emergency landings,
again so as to refresh the student. The student performs a “walk
around”and “pre flight inspection” of the aircraft. The student performs
the start up procedures and radio calls, followed by take off and standard
departure procedures. Once in the Circuit, the instructor will then review
the manouvers learnt from the pervious lesson, and practice flying circuits
(touch and go’s & full stops). At the end of the lesson, the student
will land, finishing with parking and shut down procedures.
The flight will
be completed with a post flight review briefing and a preview of the lesson
to come.
EVALUATION:
This is deemed a
successful lesson if and when:
The student flies
accurate circuit procedures, whilst maintaining the desired headings, airspeeds
and altitudes. The student makes normal and cross wind take offs
and landings. The student shows a high level of competence in the
use of the go around procedure.
