Major Charactres: Nomad Crew, "Maeve," Mala, Scratch
(The crew is at the Nomad which is docked at Albadon)
Bryn: (walks up to Doubar) Where's Sinbad?
Doubar: He went into town to settle the accounts.
Bryn: I wish he would have let me know. There's this cape in the market I had my eye on.
Doubar: You can probably still catch him. We have lots of time before the next tide, if that's the way things are going.
Firouz: Hang on, Akeersi!
(Bryn is walking along the dock when Mala comes up behind her)
Mala: Bryn?
(Bryn turns)
Bryn: Have we met?
Mala: No, but I know all about you. You're a friend of Sinbad's.
Bryn: I am. And you?
Mala: We were close a long time ago. If you care for him, like I think you do, you'll get him on his ship and away from this island now.
Bryn: I can't. He's not here.
Mala: Where is he?
Bryn: He's gone back to town.
Mala: Oh no. It can't be too late.
Bryn: If you're a friend of his, you can wait on board. We're just docked right over there.
(Bryn turns and sees that Mala has disappeared)
(Sinbad is walking through an empty town)
Sinbad: Hello! Is anyone there? Hello!
(Sinbad keeps walking)
Sinbad: Anybody there?
(Sinbad is suddenly surrounded by mist)
Maeve: Sinbad! Help me!
Sinbad: (whispers) Maeve!
Maeve: Sinbad!
(Sinbad runs in the direction of the voice; he comes to a cloaked woman)
Sinbad: Maeve! Is that you?
(Maeve turns around and shows her face)
Sinbad: Are you alright?
Maeve: Help me, Sinbad! Help me!
(Maeve runs away from him)
Sinbad: Maeve!
(Sinbad chases after her)
(Doubar and Bryn are talking)
Doubar: She was probably just some local crackpot trying to play a joke on a lowly sailor.
Bryn: I didn't get that at all. She didn't seem like she was from around here. Dressed in blue?the coin around her neck?
Doubar: A gold coin.
Bryn: Yeah. Very old.
Doubar: Roman.
Bryn: You know her?
Doubar: Impossible!
(Doubar turns and leaves)
Bryn: Doubar! What's wrong?
(Sinbad is chasing after Maeve)
Sinbad: Is this some kind of joke?
(Sinbad is almost hit by lightning)
Sinbad: No joke!
Maeve: Sinbad! Help me!
(Sinbad goes after Maeve)
(Sinbad comes up to a building)
Sinbad: Board in a storm.
(Sinbad enters the building, and the eyes of the symbol on the door glow red)
(Opening credits)
(Sinbad is inside the building)
Sinbad: Must be the low-rent district
(Sinbad is attacked by bats; he swings at them, and they eventually leave)
Sinbad: I hate bats.
(Scratch comes closer, sitting on his chair)
Scratch: Don't go away. It's time to play! (laughs) You bet your life! (laughs)
Sinbad: You!
Scratch: You're expecting the tooth fairy? (laughs)
Sinbad: What do you want?
Scratch: You, Sinbad.
Sinbad: No offense, but you're not my type. (turns to leave)
Scratch: If you go, you'll never know about the girl.
(Sinbad stops and turns)
Sinbad: She's here?
Scratch: And yours for the taking.
Sinbad: What's the catch?
Scratch: Ah, the direct approach. I like that. Well, the catch is: you join me?fight on behalf of the dark forces. I'll get your services, and your soul. You get the girl. (laughs)
Sinbad: Not a chance.
Scratch: Oh, come on! Join the dark side. You're already dressed for it. Nice outfit, by the way.
(Sinbad looks down at his outfit)
Sinbad: I want the girl.
Scratch: And you shall have her. And hundreds of others! If you join me. You take one more step, and there won't be much left of you. Here's the deal, I need a strong figure to fight for me on the behalf of the dark forces, someone people will believe in. You fit the bill.
Sinbad: You're wasting your breath.
(Scratch laughs as he breathes on Sinbad, who wipes it away)
Scratch: Now, before we get to the good versus evil debate, I must point out to you that as a hero you do more harm than good. Think about it, Sinbad, no offence, you try your best, but your heroics are.. disastrous.
Sinbad: Tell that to the people I've helped.
Scratch: How about the people you've hurt?
(Scratch shows Sinbad images of people who died)
Sinbad: Mustapha!
Scratch: Remember Mustapha? He doesn't look too pleased about joining your crew. There goes Master Dim-Dim. Wave bye to your master, Sinbad.
Sinbad: I don't have to watch this.
Scratch: Oh, but you do! You're drawn to it, aren't you?
Maeve: (in reflection) Sinbad! (screams)
Sinbad: (in reflection) Maeve!
Scratch: There goes your girlfriend. Maeve, was it?
(Sinbad in the reflection looks back at Doubar)
Doubar: (in reflection) Sinbad! No!
(Sinbad in the reflection dives into the ocean)
Scratch: Down the drain. Into the drink. Glug, glug, glug. (laughs) Due to your misguided heroics.
(Sinbad takes out his dagger and chucks it at the mirror, smashing it)
(Scratch laughs)
Sinbad: (draws sword and points it at Scratch's neck) I could kill you right now.
Scratch: Actually, you couldn't. But for argument's sake, let's say you could. You kill quite a bit, Sinbad, don't you? It comes quite easily to you, along with your temper. Think about it. The way you feel when you kill.
Sinbad: I do what I have to do to help people.
Scratch: (laughs) Justifications are mindless things. The more you kill in anger, the closer we become. Take a look in the mirror. See what you're becoming.
(Sinbad looks and sees a reflection of what he may become)
Scratch: Looks like you're reaching a point where old Dim Dim's magic ain't gonna protect you. Kind of an interesting look though, don't you think?
Sinbad: I won't become that thing. I won't!
(Scratch laughs)
(Mala enters)
Mala: No, you won't. The choice is still yours.
Scratch: You! Get out! You have no right to be here!
Mala: Throw me out.
Scratch: You know I can't do that!
Mala: Your skin used to be so smooth.
Sinbad: Who are you?
Mala: A friend. And one who will do her best to get you out of here alive.
Scratch: He can walk out right now, and leave the girl.
Sinbad: (to Mala) I have to find her. Mala: It could be a trap.
Sinbad: I have to know that Maeve's alright.
Mala: (to Scratch) His heart is still good and strong.
Scratch: For the time being. You'll work for me yet.
Mala: Where's the girl?
Scratch: In the dungeon. All you have to do is find her.
Sinbad: That's all?
Scratch: (laughs) That'll be plenty.
(Sinbad turns to leave; Mala follows)
Scratch: You! you can't go with him!
Mala: You stopped me once, Scratch. This time, you can't.
Scratch: Damn you!
Mala: Not likely.
Sinbad: Why are you doing this? You don't even know me. Or Maeve.
Mala: Let's just say, we're cut from the same cloth.
(Sinbad and Mala are pushed into the next room)
(The room is filled with must)
Sinbad: Remind me never to use his decorator. (pauses as he looks around) Well, this place looks safe enough to me.
(A cloaked demon appears)
Sinbad: I may have spoken too soon.
(Sinbad fights the demon)
Mala: Sinbad!
(Sinbad fights more)
Scratch: (his voice) Now, you two play nice! (laughs)
(Sinbad continues to fight)
(The demon appears to not be there anymore)
(The demon comes again, and he and Sinbad fight)
(Sinbad destroys the demon)
Sinbad: Let's go.
(Mala stays put as she sees two demons appear)
(Sinbad notices the demons)
Sinbad: You brought along a friend.
(Sinbad fights them)
(Sinbad destroys them)
Sinbad: We have to get to the dungeon.
(Sinbad is about to leave, but again Mala stays put as she sees four demons appear)
(Sinbad notices the four demons)
Sinbad: It's getting a little crowded in here.
Mala: Use your head, not your sword.
Sinbad: What?
Mala: Scratch is toying with you. Remember what he said. Every time you kill an anger, you and he grow closer. These warriors are already dead.
(Sinbad fights)
Mala: When you unleash your anger, you increase their power. Kill one, another one appears.
Sinbad: I'm open to suggestions.
(Sinbad continues fighting)
Mala: Think. They're programmed to kill anything in their way.
Sinbad: Right now, I'm the only thing in their way.
Mala: And only you can change that.
(Sinbad kicks a demon)
Sinbad: Then I'll get out of their way.
(Sinbad fights)
Mala: Remember, your sword is useless!
(Sinbad flips, and two demons kill each other; he does it again to the other two)
Mala: You did it.
Sinbad: Barely. We have to get a move on.
Mala: It's alright to be confused.
Sinbad: I'm not.
Mala: And hurt. And angry.
Sinbad: I don't know what you're talking about.
Mala: Sometimes when we lose someone we love, we pretend not to hurt. We pretend we're too tough to care. And eventually, we forget we're pretending.
Sinbad: You're risking your life for me. I don't even know your name.
Mala: You can call me Mala.
Sinbad: Lady's first.
Mala: Not a chance.
Sinbad: I was just being polite.
(They leave)
(Doubar takes out a box, opens it, and hands Bryn a scroll with the drawing of a woman--Mala--on it)
Doubar: Is that the woman you saw?
Bryn: Yes. How did you get this? Where?
Doubar: She always loved blue. Said it reminded her of the sky. And the gold coin reminded her of the sun. It brought her luck.
Bryn: Doubar? What's going on?
Doubar: I never thought she'd ever come back.
Bryn: Doubar.
Doubar: But she did. (gets up) Rongar! Firouz! We're heading out! Bryn, I want you to order Dermott to stay put.
Firouz: But the loading!
Doubar: Tallos can supervise the loading. We're going back to town.
Firouz: Why?
Doubar: We have to save Sinbad.
Firouz: From what?
Doubar: Death.
(The crew is walking in the town)
Bryn: Doubar?
Doubar: Aye, I can feel it too. And I'm not blessed with your gift.
Firouz: Unbelievable. This was a thriving village not an hour ago.
Doubar: This place has the stench of death to it.
Firouz: Yeah. What now?
Doubar: Sinbad? Sinbad!
(Bryn shivers)
Firouz: Chilly?
Bryn: Down to my soul.
Doubar: Sinbad!
Bryn: I've never seen so many flies around.
Firouz: Reminds me of the time when we encountered the Lord of the Flies.
Bryn: What?
Firouz: Scratch. The devil. The name of this town. The island.
Bryn: Albadon?
Firouz: Another name for the bottomless pit. An abyss. The abyss.
Bryn: So?
Firouz: The devil is called the Lord of the Bottomless Pit.
Bryn: I'm not quite following.
Firouz: Well, unless I miss my guess, we sailed into hell on earth. We don't have to save Sinbad from death.
Bryn: We don't--
Firouz: We have to save him from damnation.
Bryn: We have to tell Doubar.
Firouz: I'm with you.
(They go find Doubar)
(Mala and Sinbad are going through the maze)
Mala: What's wrong?
Sinbad: Something doesn't feel right here. Go easy. Keep your hands away from the walls.
Mala: Why?
(An arm comes out of the wall at her and Sinbad chops it off)
Sinbad: That's why.
(They continue on their way)
Sinbad: Evil comes in many forms.
Mala: And you're an expert on it?
Sinbad: I've run across a lot of it.
Mala: And you fight it.
Sinbad: The best I can.
Mala: Why?
Sinbad: Someone has to.
(They see flames coming at them down the tunnel)
Mala: You could go back now. He can't touch you in the outside world.
Sinbad: Not a chance.
(Fireballs come at them; Sinbad bats them away with his sword)
Sinbad: I think we better get moving.
(Flames are coming at them)
(Sinbad and Mala stick to the wall as the flames pass them)
Sinbad: Are you okay?
Mala: Define okay.
Sinbad: Not charbroiled.
Mala: Then I'm fine. This woman you're after.
Sinbad: Maeve.
Mala: Your wife?
Sinbad: (chuckled) Hardly. (looks back at Mala) We care about each other. A lot. We went through some hard times. She?she went into hiding.
Mala: From the dark forces?
Sinbad: They seem to be growing stronger every day. She's supposed to be safe. I just want to make sure she is.
Mala: You really miss her, don't you?
Sinbad: Come on. We better get going.
(They walk through the maze)
Mala: Do you think we took a wrong turn?
Sinbad: Want to go back and find out?
(Scratch appears)
Scratch: I see you made it through my little maze. Drat, I was so looking forward to a fish fry.(laughs)
Sinbad: What is your problem?
Scratch: You're my problem. And people like you. Do-gooders. How imbearably boring.
Mala: He seems to keep the likes of you in check.
Scratch: Temporarily! It's losing bottle sport. Your world is coming to my home in a handbasket. You can see it all around you. Greed, averse, war, murder. (laughs) Why fight it? All of that delicious nastyness is just part of being alive. It's second nature to your kind.
Sinbad: Then you don't need my help for anything.
Scratch: Patience is a virtue, Sinbad. I have none! I want the world! And I want it NOW! Help me and I'll reward you. Hinder me, I'll make your life a living hell!
Sinbad: Temper, temper, temper.
Scratch: (laughs) Now, go ahead. Be a hero. Amuse yourself. I have a previous engagement anyway.
Sinbad: Wait!
Scratch: Too late. No time to chat. I have to prepare my humble abode for guests.
Sinbad: What guests?
Scratch: Oh, a few never do wells. A scientist, a mute, minor witch and a bellowing blowhart of a sailor. Four easy souls for the taking. After some torture of course. Oh yeah! I forgot! You know them! They're your beloved crew. Oh, well.. Gotta go! I'll give them your best.
Sinbad: If you harm any of them?
Scratch: What's the matter, hero? Doubting the power of good? Smart boy. Let's make a deal. Here now. Your soul, and you can choose who you want to save. Your gal pal in the dungeon, or your crew.
(Sinbad closes his eyes for a moment)
Scratch: Can't decide? Too bad! (laughs as he disappears)
Sinbad: No!
Mala: Sinbad.
Sinbad: What?!
Mala: Letting your emotions get away with you is not going to help anybody?including your crew.
Sinbad: You know nothing about me. Nothing! I lost my parents, my friends to this--
Mala: And you know less about me. And yourself. Think, Sinbad. Scratch wants you dead or working with him for a reason. You can stop him. You have the power. (The crew finds the building)
Doubar: You sure he's in here?
(Doubar goes to open the door)
Bryn: Doubar, wait! Don't open it. This hut..it's as if it's here but it's not.
Doubar: Firouz, do you recognize this? (points at the symbol)
Firouz: We've seen this before.
Doubar: Uh huh. And unless I miss my guess, goat-boy is behind all of this.
Bryn: Doubar!
Doubar: It's real enough, Bryn. I bashed my way into this devil's home once. I can do it again.
(Sinbad and Mala are talking)
Mala: You have the weapon. It's there. (puts hand up to Sinbad's chest) Your heart. It's strong. But to use it, you have to believe in it.
Sinbad: I can weather any storm.
Mala: Remember, heart, head, and then the sword.
Sinbad: After we find Maeve, we're going to go back for my crew. We'll beat Scratch at his own game. (turns to leave, then turns back to Mala) In a heartfelt way, of course.
(They leave)
(Doubar opens the door and the four of them fall into a web)
(Scratch laughs)
Scratch: Welcome to my parlour, said the spider to the flies. (laughs)
Doubar: What have you done to Sinbad?
Scratch: Nothing. Whatever happens to your brother will be of his own doing. My, my how my little flies struggle so. You should relax. You've come to the end of your adventures. (laughs)
Doubar: Bryn?
Bryn: I can't feel anything, Doubar. It's like I'm in limbo.
Scratch: Well put, little witch. Frankly, I'm surprised you teamed up with these do-gooders. A girl with your pedigree?
Bryn: What's that supposed to mean?
Scratch: No matter. Well, as long as you're all confortable, let's begin our four course dining experience, shall we? Come out and get it!
(A spider comes)
(Scratch laughs)
Scratch: And don't expect your Sinbad to save you. He's otherwise engaged! (laughs)
(Sinbad and Mala find Maeve in the dungeon)
Sinbad: (smiles) Maeve.
(Sinbad cuts her down)
Sinbad: Maeve.
(Maeve shows her face?she is really a monster)
Monster: Guess again.
Mala: It's a trap!
(Sinbad and the monster fight)
(Sinbad's bracelet shines)
(They continue to struggle)
Sinbad: Back to the main cavern!
Mala: The creature--
Sinbad: Will follow us. Maybe she'll be a distraction to buy me some time.
Mala: To save your crew?
Sinbad: To save my crew.
(The crew is struggling in the web)
Scratch: Any last words?
Doubar: Go to?heaven!
Scratch: Oh, such profanity!
(The monster turns into a harpy)
Mala: Uh oh.
Sinbad: Oh yeah.
Mala: Sinbad?
Sinbad: She'll definitely be a distraction.
(The crew is still tangled in the web)
Doubar: We've gotten out of tighter scrapes.
Firouz: Point of fact, there was that situation in Basra, when--
Doubar: Firouz!
(Sinbad enters)
Bryn: Sinbad!
Scratch: To late for the hero!
Sinbad:(to Mala) Hit the deck!
(The harpy following Sinbad and Mala collides with the spider and both are destroyed)
Scratch: No!
Sinbad: The game's over, devil. I've won.
Scratch: No. All you've done is delayed the outcome.
Mala: He won, Scratch. He survived without killing anyone.
Scratch: So what? Now he can watch me devour his crew. I'm deadlier than any insect.
Sinbad: Let them go. I'll give you my soul, freely and willingly.
Doubar: No, Sinbad! No!
Scratch: You would do that?
Sinbad: I would.
Scratch: Agreed!
Mala: Take your crew and go, Sinbad.
Scratch: Such insolence.
Mala: His soul is worthless to you now, Scratch. He's willingly giving his life to save his friends. Self sacrifice is the ultimate show of friendship. Of love. His soul is pure. It cannot be corrupted. You've lost.
Scratch: You seacow. I should have known you'd ruin everything. I gave you a watery grave before. And now!
(Scratch pushes Mala into a lava pit)
Sinbad: Mala!
Doubar: (mouths) Mala?
Scratch: (laughs) Yes, give in to your anger Sinbad. Join me. Watch your friends die.
(The pit of fire turns to water)
Firouz: The pit, look!
Bryn: The lava! It's just water now.
Scratch: No! Water? Seawater? (Mala rises from the pit of water)
Mala: Take your crew and go, Sinbad. You've earned your freedom.
Sinbad: But--
Mala: Go.
Scratch: Nobody's going anywhere!
Mala: He's proved himself strong, Scratch. No matter how hard life can be. The human spirit will triumph.
Scratch: I'll see you all in hell!
Mala: No, Scratch, I'll see you at the bottom of the sea.
(Mala sprays water over Scratch, she disappears. The building is falling apart)
Sinbad: Mala!
Doubar: She's gone, Sinbad. She's gone.
(The crew run outside.)
Sinbad: Thank you, Mala. Thank you.
Doubar: Sinbad.
Sinbad: The tide's waiting. I think we need to set sail.
(The crew leaves; Doubar stays behind; Mala is standing behind him)
Mala: You did a great job of raising him, Doubar.
Doubar: You were a good teacher, mother.
(Doubar turns)
(They hug)
Doubar: (after pulling apart) Never thought I'd see you again. The ship went down. Never got to say goodbye.
Mala: I always had faith in you, Doubar. You've always been an old soul. But little Sinbad?never even got the chance to know me.
Doubar: He's had some rough times.
Mala: That's why I came back. Living or dead, once a mother, always a mother. He needed me.
Doubar: I have to go now. (pauses) Wish me luck.
Mala: (as she disappears) Always.
(Back on the Nomad, Sinbad is tying the longboat up, and Doubar walks over to him; Doubar gives Sinbad a bearhug)
Sinbad: I know you love me, but?
(They pull apart)
Sinbad: What was that for?
Doubar: For luck.
(Doubar walks away; Sinbad walks up to Bryn)
Bryn: You alright?
Sinbad: Yeah. I think I'm going to be just fine.
(Sinbad walks up to the bow and looks out over the ocean)
(Doubar walks up to him)
Sinbad: We're heading out.
Doubar: Where to?
Sinbad: Wherever the wind takes us.
Doubar: A lovely spot.
(Doubar leaves Sinbad)
(Sinbad looks out over the water)
THE END
