Diving The Manacles Reef In Cornwall

Parc An Grouse which overlooks the Manacles Reef on the Lizard Peninsula is very popular with divers due to the number of ships that have met their fate on the rocky outcrops that dominate the coastal approaches. Many of these wrecks can be reached with a minimum amount of effort, with a number of beaches close by that permit divers to launch and retrieve boats (the closest to Parc An Grouse is Porthoustock, just half a mile away).
Dive trips can be arranged with Gary Fox of Dive Action in St. Keverne, one of the top dive operators in the country.

Now available is our new Barn conversion designed specifically for divers, with large en-suite rooms and purpose built drying room, this means that we can take groups of up to twenty divers (10 in the house and 10 in the barn) . Also there is plenty of safe off road parking for cars and dive boats. We believe that we can offer the best diving accommodation in Cornwall.

She struck the Manacles on October 14th 1898 on only her second voyage from Tilbury to New York. The great ship sank in less than ten minutes, 106 lives were lost including the captain and every single officer, so we will never know how the extraordinary mistake in good visibility was made. Most of the dead are buried in a mass grave in St. Keverne church yard.
