| HOW TO USE THE ESRB RATINGS |
|
The ESRB videogame ratings, appear on the front of every game's box, and usually on the game pak or disk itself. In either the lower right or lower left hand corner. Turn the box over and look at the bottom right, for a black-and-white box. Here, along with the ESRB hotline number and web-site address, are the content descriptors (Be careful though, as not all PC games will contain the content descriptors). This box will explain any potentially objectionable material the game contains. If you don't see any content descriptors, that means that the ESRB didn't feel the game's content warranted any special mentions. Although Sony, Nintendo, and Sega require ratings on all games for their systems, rating is voluntary on the PC. Still, evey legitimate publisher makes sure all of it's games are rated. So, if a PC game doesn't have a rating, proceed with caution. And keep in mind that if your buying games for the Genesis, Super NES, or Game Boy, that some of them were released before the ESRB started, and therefore won't have ratings. And any game released before 1994, WILL NOT HAVE A RATING. So, proceed with caution when buying older games that aren't rated.
