System
- Dual System (PAL/NTSC) - Whether it's PAL or NTSC,
these players deliver the whole picture in stunning clarity. And
it's all done automatically! This means you get more choices in
software
- DVD/CD/VCD playback
- 10-bit Video D/A Converter (DVD/VCD) - Conversion
of digital 8-bit DVD-Video data to analogue data can degrade Y
(luminance) and C (chrominance) colour signals. In this way,
playback, if unmodified, can distort picture colour. Pioneer D/A
conversion upgrades 8-bit Y/C signal data to 10-bit data to maintain
data integrity and reproduce images that are truer to the DVD source
- Accurate Digital Servo with Automatic Jitter
Adjustment (DVD) - ensures superior tracing stability for
ultra-precise data signal reading. Plus automatically adjusts focus
servo and tracking servo gain levels to minimise jitter at all times
during playback
- Viterbi RF Decoding Process (DVD) - applies
sophisticated parametric statistical analysis to improve correction
of data errors caused by fingerprints and dust on discs, as well as
warped discs
- Video DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) (DVD/VCD)
- Horizontal Sharpness (DVD/VCD) - The control
circuit enhances horizontal contours, which adds crispness to the
smallest details for an even sharper image.
- Block Filter (DVD/VCD) - Because the data
compression process can add block noise, Pioneer's Block Filter
diffuses the noise to provide a more smooth and natural overall
picture. It cleverly works on the noisy part of the picture only,
for improved efficiency.
- Twin Wave Laser Pickup - A high-precision Twin Wave
Laser Pickup is used to read out signals from the disc. It features
two laser diodes - one with a 650 mm wavelength for DVD, and the
other with 780 mm for CD and Video CD. Since the optimum wavelength
is automatically selected and used for each format, data is read
with the highest precision. Pioneer's unique mechanism also allows
playback of CD-R discs.
Audio Features
- Dolby Digital (DVD) - offers many benefits beyond
Dolby Pro Logic: because it's a true digital soundtrack system, you
enjoy the dynamics of high- quality digital audio. Dolby Digital has
"5.1" audio channels: front left, front right, centre,
rear left and rear right, plus subwoofer. These discrete channels
are not matrixed as in standard Dolby Pro Logic, so they give a
clearer sense of direction and more focused localisation of dialogue
and sound effects. This system brings dramatic sound quality
improvements compared with conventional systems, especially in the
rear surround channels, which are stereo, not mono, so sound effects
are more dramatic
- Virtual Dolby Surround with SRS TruSurround -
Virtual Dolby Surround creates a realistic surround sound ambience,
by using only two front speakers. The built-in virtualiser circuit
processes Dolby Pro Logic signal characteristics by which listeners
judge directionality and localisation of sound. So front speaker
signals can be processed to sound as if they emanate from behind the
listener. The total effect surrounds the listener in an envelope of
dynamic, realistic sound.
- Hi-Bit Legato Link Conversion - combines hi-bit
expansion technology with Legato Link for even more natural sound.
By transcending the limits imposed by the CD format, Pioneer's
Wide-Range Technology is capable of reproducing the expansion and
presence of a sound very close to the original, with more realism
and all the delicate nuances intact.
- 96 kHz/24-bit Audio D/A Converter
- MPEG Audio (Digital Output)
- DTS (Digital Theater System) (Digital Output)
Conveniences
- Programmed Play (CD/Track, Video/Chapter, Title)
- Remote Control with ISC (Intelligent System
Control) - ISC allows easy control and operation of all the
components in your audio/video system using just one simple handset.
Each phase of audio/video operation is controlled by the ISC remote
controller, giving exceptional convenience and ease of use.
Pioneer's ISC system consists of the following concepts:
- Ergonomic Remote Controller Lets you manage
your audio/video components from one simplified design remote
controller with less keys than standard remotes.
- Multi-Operation You can perform multiple
operation settings with the controller, and easily operate
several pieces of equipment.
- Easy Setup with "Preset Recall" and
`learning" Setup Modes Stores preset codes for non-Pioneer
models, so you can control and operate your audio/video
components more easily using one simplified remote controller.
Even if your equipment is not stored in the preset codes, the
"Learning" Setup feature allows you to learn control
signals from your remote controller for more easy setup (VSA-E06
and VSX-906RDS).
- Repeat Mode (All, Title/Chapter, A+B)
- Still / Step Play (Forward / Reverse) (except VCD
reverse)
- Random Play
- SR (System Remote) Control Unit - Pioneer's
full-function SR (System Remote) control that's included with most
of our components lets you operate not only that particular unit,
but other Pioneer audio components and video equipment (indicated by
the SR logomark) as well
- Graphical User Interface for DVD - simplifies
function setting on TV screens via remote operation. The
cursor-based selection system makes it easy to follow on-screen
instructions* and enter various options.
- Last Memory (DVD/VCD)
- Condition Memory
- Continue Play Memory (5 DVD's, 1 VCD)
- Personal Modes
- Video Paremeter Set
- Still Play (Field/Frame)
- Slow Play (except VCD reverse)

- Full DVD Control
- Multi-Audio and Multi-Language*
- DVD speaks in several languages, with capacity
for up to 8 soundtracks or up to 32 sets of subtitles. So now
you can choose to watch a movie in English, French, German,
Spanish - or any other language on the audio track.
- Multi-Story*
- DVDs have enough capacity to contain not just
one, but several story line progressions. Pioneer players'
Multi-Story function makes it easy to choose and play your
favourite movie ending, for example.
- Multi-Aspect Ratio*
- Pioneer DVD players let you choose among
multiple aspect ratios. Some movies may be best viewed in the
16:9 widescreen cinema format, while other programmes may be
better suited for conventional 4:3 TV or other aspect ratios.
- Multi-Angle*
- DVDs contain up to nine different viewing
angles of the action. Pioneer's multi-angle function lets you
switch freely among them, enriching your perspective of
spectator sports, concerts, and other events.
- Parents lock*
- Parents can prevent children from viewing
undesirable scenes and material by selecting a parental
restriction level that is preset in the software. * Available
only if encoded on discs
