These are scratchboard drawings of well known, and not so well known, fishing flies. All of the drawings are available as prints or originals.
Fly fishing uses flies made from many beautiful materials. These drawings attempt to capture that beauty. Most of the drawings are of flies I have used over the years in fly fishing trips to the western states.

Scratchboard drawings are done on a white clay coated, heavy paper board. The clay is, in my work, initially covered completely with a black ink. In making the drawings a pointed metal tool in used to scratch through the black outer layer of ink and into the clay. This leaves a white drawing that then has water colors applied to produce the final work. The colors of materials used to tie flies are perfect for scratchboard drawings. This is just another way to enjoy fly fishing and fly tying.
