This is a picture of me taken at a suprise birthday party (50 years old, Jan. 1998).
I was born in 1948 in Ridgley, Missouri, population 62, Mom and I counted them up one day. After moving around a bit (Kansas City, Missouri - Phoenix, Ariz. and California) I ended up outside of Kansas City near the small town of Buckner, Mo. (USA)
.
We, (wife, Jan, and son, Adam) live on 20 acres about 3 miles outside of Buckner.
In addition to woodworking both Adam and I flyfish whenever possible. We are members of The Heart of America Fly Fishers Club and Arrowhead Fly Fishers and the FFF. Most of our fly fishing is for trout in Yellowstone and Flaming Gorge, Utah. We also make some local Missouri trips for trout, bass, catfish and whatever we can catch. Each year we venture off to Mountain Home, Arkansas to attend the FFF Southern Council Convention and get in some trout fishing on the White River.
Birkes' FlyCrafts.com was started to share some of the things we like to do with others having the same interests. Fly Tying has been a big part of our lives since 1970 when I started tying (fly fishing began in 1964 at Roaring River State Park in Cassville, Mo.USA). Adam began tying in 1988 at age 7. He has been honored with "Junior Fly Tyer of the Year" by the FFF Southern Council, in 1995. He has gone on to tie for local shops and individuals.
Our goal is to provide affordable equipment and materials for tiers around the world. The beginner sometimes is as a loss what to buy, where to buy and how much to spend. The experienced tier is always looking to try something new at a good price. We hope to give good advice and support through FlyCrafts.com.
The tools and materials we offer are used in our personal tying and on our fishing trips. All items provided by FlyCrafts.com are guaranteed to meet your needs or your money will be refunded.
Take a look around and if you like something let me know. Our toys and drawings are original creations and available in very limited quanities. Check back once in awhile.
Thanks for spending some time here,
Steve
