Some of these sound files are very large and will take a while to download. I recorded the sounds on a tape player, then plugged a tape player into my sound board and captured the "wav" files with the desktop recorder. Credits

Stern Galaxy It was released in January of 1980 and was designed by Harry Williams, the founder of Williams Pinball. (check out the flyer) This is a great example of a classic pinball machine. The cabinet is black with red and yellow accents and the name GALAXY down the sides. The playfield and backglass are very colorful with timeless graphics. Electronic sounds follow the play of the ball and lights are everywhere. Stern was the first to offer drop targets with a memory so that the correct targets are up for each player at the start of the next ball. Bonus points are awarded after the ball drains and the sounds as the display totals up are distictive and classic. The game is a lot of fun to play. You try to spell GALAXY by hitting the rollovers to get an extra ball. You get planets by completing the drop targets, the stand up targets on the right and two rollovers help you achive your goal. After you earn several planets the "sun" is lit for a special. The plunger shot makes a tight loop to a popper and kick out at the top of the playfield. The top left is a loop that awards points based on the letters in GALAXY. The two slingshots are higher than normal allowing the ball to bounce back and forth over the in and out lanes. Three rollover targets complete the playfield. The rectifier board and the main CPU boards have been completely re-built with all new IC's and critical components. The solenoid board has been upgraded to disipate heat as suggested in the latest literature. The playfield has been touched up and completely covered with mylar. The mylar will keep the game looking great for at least another 20 years. New rubber, ball and needed playfield parts complete the renovation. |
