About Us
Started diving in high school at age 16. I had a very good coach but just started too late to catch the wave of very excellent divers. I have worked six years + in management and lifeguard/water safety positions in the summer. I went to jr. college and Cal Poly Pomona during the rest of the time.
Most of my photo's are aquatic show dives or trick dives. They are about 30 years old and I'm 50 something married with two children. Since my special dives are now too hard for me to do, it is time for me to stop and pass the information on just diving information just like my old high school diving coach. My wife is in charge of the diving cookie jar. We both check the e-mails. My granddaughter Amber is my editor-in-chief and reminds me when I use big words. Granddaughter Britz gives me moral support. Two of our grandchildren are on the home page and, with their parents help, we now have three the youngest just starting to walk. A special thanks goes out to my brother Scott who is now our Web Master and host at chelpers.net (the "c" in chelpers stands for computer). He's the "go to man" when it comes to computers!
I found that my local public pool has stopped allowing anything but a forward dive, cannon ball, and jackknife dives to my dislike. I'm afraid the sport of springboard diving will severely diminish with the current trend (lack of a school budget- my high school pool that was just refurbished has suspended all swim programs ). Only the Park & Recreation pools are open during the Summer. A diving class, diving camp, or private lessons seem to be the only way to practice and learn all the proper Springboard Diving Techniques.
and more dives...
This trick dive is a half goner with 1/2 twist. It looks like a back flop but the 1/2 twist saves the day!!!
