RESTING MUGA IMAGING

RESTING MUGA (RESTING CARDIAC LV STUDY)

Purpose: Evaluate LVEF & Resting Wall Motion for cardiac function and EF for cardiotoxic chemotherapy drugs.

Dose: 25.0-30.0 mCi Tc99m labeled red blood cells- ULTRATAG I.V.

Collimators: HR and GAP or LEAP (HS)

Patient preparation: No patients preparation needed.

Equipment: EKG gate, some I.V. apparatus.

Procedure:

1. After injecting 25.0-30.0 mCi of Tc99m labeled RBC, perform resting MUGA study.

2. Place three EKG electrodes and connect to EKG monitor for gating.

3. Position patient for LAO 45 degree or close by to get the best separation of LV.

4. Acquire appropriate counts , bits or time to get enough statistical data for calclating LVEF.

5. Position patient for RAO 15 and LAO 70 degree by subtacting and adding 45 degree of LAO 45 degree angle.

6. Process LAO 45 degree angle view for calculating left ventricular ejection fraction.

7. Filter RAO 15 and LAO 70 degree imaging for review.

8. Have all data ready for physician to review.
