First and foremost, illegal pyramid schemes are, as they lead you to believe, ILLEGAL. Now, Multi-Level Marketing businesses, usually are not illegal, but a lot of times immoral. The typical Amway business is in no way illegal, and from what I have seen the Amway corporation is not immoral, either. Some people who become Amway distributors work the system in a less-than-moral method. But otherwise, the Amway Corporation is not an illegal or immoral company. To put it bluntly, for Amway's sake, the corporation does nothing, itself, against man's laws or God's laws. But, this page is dedicated to defining what an illegal pyramid scheme is, so lets move on.

| What is it? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
An illegal pyramid scheme is best defined with the idea of a triangle in your mind. As you look at this triangle, imagine one person at the top and many people at the bottom with the number of people less in each tier until the one at the top. An illegal pyramid scheme is when the person at the bottom of this triangle can in no way meet or beat the income of the person at the top. Nor can the person at the bottom feasibly become the person at the top. Those are the main ideals of an illegal pyramid scheme.

| What looks the most like an illegal pyramid scheme... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| To imagine an illegal pyramid scheme, one only needs to look at a department store. Choose your favourite one. Be it Sears or J.C. Pennys, the person that works in the stockroom doesn't have much of a chance of making the salary or having the position that the CEO or President of the company has. Those companies are not illegal pyramid schemes, but they look the most like it. Multi-Level Marketing businesses are not new, but the concept of it being legal and moral... That is another question. The US Government has stated that World Wide International and Harris Enterprises is not an illegal pyramid scheme.
