I recently began tracing my family history. I am not quite sure what got me interested in it, but it has been interesting. So far I have a little over 500 people and have yet to find anyone who wasn't born in the United States. The majority of my family have the surnames of Dickey, Booth, Hicks, and Lofton. There is one intriguing thing about the Hicks surname. It exists on both my maternal and paternal branches. On my maternal side, my great grandmother's maiden name is Hicks. On my paternal side, my grandmother's maiden name is Hicks. I have yet to find a connection, but it makes me wonder. They are both from the same part of the country.

I am still doing research and will probably continue for several years. At this point I am using a program called Family Tree Maker, getting information by word of mouth, and using information that others have gathered.
