What type of identification
will Any of the Kennel Clubs accept?? There are three (3) types of
identification that is acceptable by any of the Kennel Clubs. One is a collar with a number
tag on it. Many people prefer this method, but I do not for several
reasons. One primary reason is that the
number
tag can get hung up in
a fence, and a dog can end up getting choked or even hang themselves. Next should your dog run away,
anyone can take the collar off and claim the dog as theirs. It is so hard to tell one maltese
or one black poodle, or etc. from each other. The loss of a beloved
pet is very hard, as it is like losing a member of the family. Next is to have the dog tattooed
by
someone who knows the right way. If you have the tools and know how
you can perform this procedure. Each dog in the family must
have its own number. So, Do
Not think using your
social security number or your birth date on all the dogs you own, will
work, it will not. I, personally, Do
Not like tattooing.
To me, it is too painful, and anyone who can tattoo, can alter a tattoo,
making it hard for a person to prove a given dog is their should it run
away from home. Microchips
is the newest method of identification. This is placed under the skin
between the shoulder blades and spine on the left side. This is inserted
with a special needle and applicator. It is no more intrusive than
giving your dog a rabies shot. It Can
Not be removed or
altered in anyway. The microchips can be registered
for a small fee with the dog registries. Some microchip companies
have their own data bases for keeping track of who bought what number chips. This chip makes it so that if
Fifi or Fido does get lost, with the use of a hand held scanner and the
paper work that goes in the dogs file, it is proof positive that the dog
is yours and you can be reunited with your cherished pet. Many breeders are placing microchips
in their breeding stock. Many of them do the microchip
process themselves and for a few dollars, will be more than happy to microchip
the new puppy you get from them, for you. If the breeder is not able to
do this for you, as they may not be allowed to do so by law, there are
many veterinarians who will do it for you. The cost varies from breeder
to breeder as well as from veterinarian to veterinarian. A lot depends
on the brand that they use and the initial cost of the microchips to them. Many dogs, peoples beloved pets
are stolen and sold to laboratories. With the microchip in a dog
the unsuspected thief can be caught and put out of business. The laboratories that buy dogs
for experiments have to check every dog now for microchips. If the
dog is micro chipped, the laboratory must get all the proper documents
from the seller. Should the seller not have the
proper paper work needed, the laboratories are required to report the seller,
and do everything possible to reunite the dog with its owner. In my opinion, this is the best
and most humane method of identification for your beloved pet. Now the choice is up to you
to decide which method is the best for you. GOOD LUCK AND GREAT SUCCESS
