NEWS LETTER
VOLUME XXXII
HAPPY EASTER
WHAT'S THIS, A NEWS LETTER!
I know it has been a long time. Since our last news letter, we had our five year anniversary open house. I would like to thank everyone who was able to make it. We had a good time visiting and showing AUDIO VISION to new comers. AUDIO VISION was presented with numerous contributions from visitors. The Emblem Club of San Bernardino was there to present AUDIO VISION with a contribution of $500.00. Representatives from the Lutheran Braille Workers were there and offered a contribution to pay for our cost of the foods and drinks. Jean's Flower Basket of Yucaipa sent a beautiful bouquet of flowers for the occasion. Our five year anniversary reminded us how fortunate we are to be in this community of generous volunteers and friends.
NEW VOLUNTEER BOARD OPERATOR
Kelly Hill has joined the ranks as an AUDIO VISION volunteer. He is being trained as a board operator. Kelly is a former student of Cal State San Bernardino. He makes his home in San Bernardino with his fiancee and 2 year old daughter. Currently Kelly is working on Tuesday's and Thursday's. We all would like to welcome him aboard.
OFF AGAIN, ON AGAIN
For a two week period several weeks ago our control board for studio B was on the fritz. We had an engineer look at it, and it was determined that it needed a new program audition amplifier. Because this board is old and has not been in production for a long time, it is very hard to find parts for it. We were faced with the decision to have to spend $3000.00 for a new board. While trying to find funds for a new board, it miraculously came back to life. Stan How, a former AUDIO VISION volunteer who is a retired engineer, came in one morning to take a look at it. We opened the board, and he moved a few things around, we tried to see how it works; and the same thing, everything was distorted. He also thought that the amplifier was shot. Stan sat down with the manual on the board and was reading it. I went to the board to try it again, and for some reason, it worked perfectly. We don't know why, but it is working now. Our's is not to reason why.
FUND RAISING, AN ON GOING BATTLE
Some new volunteers have asked me, "Who supports AUDIO VISION." A little less than half of our funds come from Private foundation and corporate grants. The bulk of our funds come from individuals, service clubs and in house fund raisers. We are not government funded. If you have any suggestions on fund raising see Tom. This month, we would like to thank Redlands Federal Bank for their underwriting support of a portion of this months programming. Visit one of the 14 friendly Inland Empire locations.
