(1851)THE KINGDOM OF SARDINIA - (1861) KINGDOM OF ITALY

Piedmont had stayed incorporated in the empire of Napoleon. In the 1815,with the Restoration, the Savoy returned to the power.

SARDINIA KINGDOM included the Savoy, Nice county,Monaco, Sardinia island and Liguria.
Powerful between the Italian states, the Kingdom of Sardinia had a powerful person army and a notable economic development.
Famous his man political Camillo Benso Count of Cavour.

After the second war of independence against Austria, in which Vittorio Emanuele II had the help of Napoleon III and after the annexations of the Granduchy of Tuscany, the Dukedom of Emilia and of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (famous the enterprise of Giuseppe Garibaldi), the KINGDOM OF ITALY was proclaimed in Turin in 1861.

STAMPS : The best known set of Sardinia is the fourth one, the one with an incredible varieties of colours

These stamps were printed in typography on white paper, with the King's effigy in relief, in sheets of 50 stamps.
Interesting is the fact that you find for the same stamp, different colours also in sets printed in the same year ; so, for istance, the 10 cents stamp has 4 different colours in 1858, 7 colours in 1859 and so on, for a total of 44 (maybe more!) different colours .

Differences of value can go from a few $ up to 20.000U$ for same face value stamp but with not usual colour (we do suggest Sassone specialized catalogue to learn a bit more)

From our collection you can see 2 different colours of 5 cents value (on left) and 3 different colours of 10 cents value; see the difference !

The fourth set was also used in Italy Kingdom, until December 1963.
