THE GRAND DUCHY OF TUSCANY, part two.

Stamps of Tuscany were printed by "Stamperia Granducale" in Florence; we find 3 different sets, first 2 with the image of "Lorena lion", a lion with a crown, third (Provisional Governement) has the Savoy coat of arms. First set (1851), the one with "crown and straight lines" watermark, was printed on "light blue" coloured paper that lately became "light blue grey" and then only "grey" on last printings. Colouring of paper was made with primitive methods, so often colour is not uniform or has little colour spots on the back, that are not seen as faults.

Second set (1857 ), having "waves lines" watermark ( see part one ), was printed on very thin white paper.
From our collection you can see difference between first set (on your right and on blue paper) and second ( on the left and printed on white paper ).

Third set (1860 ) with Savoy Arms was as second one, with "waves lines" watermark and printed on white paper and in between this third set we find one of the most rare stamps of the world, the "3 Lire di Toscana". Have a look at your cata
