Lambda Sorors
are a circle of Sisters
who uplift our community
through public service,
lift each other up,
support, encourage, motive,
challenge and inspire each other
to live our healthiest, best lives,
and to reach the highest educational standards.

City -Wide Chapter
In 1919, Soror Founder Osceola McCarthy Adams planted the first Delta seed at the University of Chicago by chartering our beloved Lambda Chapter. Under her capable leadership, Lambda's membership swelled to such great proportions so as to necessitate the formulation of another chapter. Thus, the second seed in the form of Theta Sigma Chapter, came into existence in 1924. Delta continued to flourish with Chicago, and in 1940 Gamma Chi Sigma Chapter was created to accommodate ever-increasing numbers. In 1931, Grand Chapter designated Lambda as the Undergraduate Chapter for the City of Chicago. Later, in 1957, Theta Sigma and Gamma Chi Sigma Chapters merged to form Chicago Alumnae Chapter. As our Founders envisioned, to this day both Lambda and Chicago Alumnae Chapters continue to keep the Torch of Wisdom burning brightly through our many contributions to the community. ![]()
