February 19th Meeting Minutes
Biography of Melanie Dharmagunaratne
The meeting was opened with the invocation and pledge.  After dinner the members were asked to introduce themselves and their guests.  Ginger introduced Linda Dingee of Edward Jones who presented a program on investments and financial security.
Waunita presented our February birthday members with a card and candy.  Deborah Gallaway, Jana Cassens, and Carolyn Pope were installed as our newest members.  Ginger was asked to tell the members about the TCAF Sweetheart meeting on February 19th.  Adele Brautigam was recognized as the Pacesetters sweetheart as she has been in our chapter the longest.
Shirley reminded everyone that March 24th is the deadline for the discounted early Spring Conference registration.  The chapter will pay $25 toward registration for each member attending.  A previous suggestion by Ginger that the chapter pay for 2 members to attend the leadership seminar at Spring Conference was presented for discussion.  A motion was made by Linda Dingee to pay for the members and Lynne Walraven seconded the motion.  After a show of hands, the motion passed.
Jean Widmann reported on scholarship applications received.  The Treasurer's report was approved.  Minutes from the last meeting were not available as Sheryl Hentze, Secretary, was unable to be at the meeting.
Door prizes were given out.  Shirley made an announcement regarding the March 11th Style Show fundraiser.  Debbie had flyers available with information and a reservation form.  Members were asked for suggestions for names of people to serve as judges for selecting our Business Associate.
Shirley led the benediction and the meeting was adjourned.
    Shirley Musick
    for Sheryl Hentze
I am 51 years of age, a Catholic by birth, living in Arlington, Texas.  I was born in Sri Lanka.  I speak English, Spanish, and Sri-Lankan.  I got my degree in Music and Speech at the Trinity College of London, and I also have an extensive experience in keyboard music.  I play both classical and pop piano.  I was married for 29 years, and have been divorced since November 5, 1997.  These last two years have been the best years of my life, unfettered by an abusive husband, a bad marriage, and dysfunctional family life in my childhood.  I have two lovely children who are the love of my life.  At present, I am dating a wonderful American who was born and bred in Fort Worth, and who has never milked a cow, nor roped a horse.  His name is Shawn.
My daughter is a doctor, and my son is a computer engineer--both live in Dallas, far enough for them to mind their own business (not mine), but close enough for me to be able to see them on the weekends.  My loving personality, a good sense of humor, coupled with a romantic nature, and my love of life, seem to draw people to me, and they enjoy being around me.
When I came to America in 1981, I instantly fell in love with this place.  It embodies everything that I believe in.  The true meaning of freedom of speech and expression lies here in America.  I have many interests and many friends, from all over the world.  I play Bridge and Pinochle and Mahjongg and other Board games.  I used to love dancing, both ballroom and country and western dance, but with my arthritis and asthma I now find it quite impossible to dance.  I love animals and I have three dogs.  I love to read books, and listen to music in my spare time, when I am not teaching.  I have traveled the world and given speeches and motivational talks to many organizations.  In my spare time I love to watch TV and go to movies.  I also love to work out at the Health Club, in water aerobics (my favorite physical activity).  I am not a very physically active person; more inclined to do "stuff" that involves the brain, rather than the body.  I am quite a night person, because my teaching usually takes place after school, so my workday starts at around 4 p.m.  I do not smoke (abhor the smell of cigarettes), but do drink once in a while.  I am both left and right brained (creative and analytical), and I usually communicate with words, deeds, and touch.  I attend church every week, and I would describe myself as affectionate, cheerful, creative, enthusiastic, funny, generous, happy, imaginative, musical, optimistic, philosophical, playful, spontaneous, trustworthy, and witty.
My health is not good at present as I am battling asthma, arthritis, fibromyalgia and other related ills, but my optimistic attitude towards life helps me to battle my illnesses.  I have a great faith in God and my faith carries me through my days, so that I always see the best in everything that happens to me.  My policy is "to live life to the fullest, one day at a time".
This is Melanie Dharmagunaratne, our speaker for this month's meeting.
