Humboldt County; 150 years of genocide

From the first influx of the "49ers" to the present; from the free-for-all massacres of the native american's to the forced expulsions of the Chinese and homeless little has changed in the way people think here in the Northwestern California hills; just the inhibitions of decreasing isolation.

Genocide is defined as the intentional attempt to destroy, in whole or in part, a national ethnic, racial, or religious group by killing members of the group, causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, deliberately inflicting on its members conditions of life calculated to bring about the group's physical destruction in whole or in part, imposing measures to prevent births within the group, or forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. Punishable crimes of genocide also include conspiracy to commit genocide, direct and public incitement to commit genocide, attempts to commit genocide, and complicity in genocide

"The homeless may be part of every town and city in the world, but that doesn't mean we have to put up with them here....I am tired of hearing that because these bums have a "general delivery" at the post office and because they sleep in the area, that they are locals and have rights." -Syd Lehman

This same man has vowed "to make homless people unwelcome in this community" and is a prominate local businessman in Garberville who represents the views of a disgustingly large group of people in this drug producing community where the many law enforcment officials roust, arrest and run homeless people out of town (often) with openly sadistic pleasure. His and other's hate filled diatribes urging the beating's or expulsions of homeless and other economically disadvantaged people are propagated by one Bill Roddy in the newspaper "The Life and Times". Mister Roddy has blamed every act of vandalism on the homless and never once appologized when it is discovered more often than not that the vandalism, burglaries and other crimes have been commited by the children of thier own group and drug addicts who's families have resided here since the days of the first Native American massacres. At the same time Humboldt County remains one of the biggest outlaw strongholds in the United States today and local drug lords are seen interviewed in his paper very often as being amongst the "good guys". This vilification includes traveling to the homless camps in the woods to look for health code violations such as not having proper sanitation etc, while directly accross the Eel river raw and half treated sewage from the sewage treatment plant there seeped out and down the hill into the river at the rate of at least a gallon a minute in the dry season for literally years, and may still.

Not far down the coast, in San Francisco, Amnesty International has taken an interest in the war on the poor (but do the authorities care?). The following is an excerpt from last years Amnesty International's report on the U.S.: "In June, Amnesty International wrote to the Governor of California and to the San Francisco authorities expressing concern that Robert Norse Kahn and other fnb members may have been targeted for their beliefs and activities on behalf of the homeless, and seeking further clarification on aspects of the case. No reply had been received by the end of the year."

END GENOCIDE IN HUMBOLDT COUNTY!
