(Mus). 1613. [a. Narragansett moos.] A cervine animal native to N.America closely allied to, or identical with, the European Elk (Alces malchis). Also m. deer. attrib. and Comb., as m.flesh –track –trail, etc.; m.bird U.S., the Canada jay, Garrulus canadensis; m.call, a trumpet of birch bark used by hunters in calling moose; m.-wood, (a) striped maple, Acer Pennsylvanicum; (b) leatherwood; m.yard, an area in which the snow is trodden down by moose, where they remain together in winter.Site created by Jimbo’s Moose 1999
