Investment Report Te Puru Station is located on Waingake Road, 30 kms south west of Gisborne, on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand, one of the country's most progressive forestry areas. Te Puru is 25 kms from processing facilities and 30 kms from Port Gisborne. Access to Gisborne is via sealed road, and the property is located within and adjacent to large forested areas owned by forestry companies and large investment groups. The area is noted for the highest growth rates in New Zealand. Production can be in excess of 800 tonnes recoverable volume per hectare giving 150 - 200 tonnes per hectare above the New Zealand average. This particularly so of the southwest region and on Te Puru an average site index of 35 can be demonstrated. Te Puru has approximately 230 hectares of Pinus Radiata, planted progressively since 1989 with mapping and identification of net stocked areas completed on 71 hectares following pruning (age classes 7 - 10 years). Additional planting and silviculture (pruning / thinning) is planned for 1999. This will substantially increase the size and value of the forestry estate. Te Puru comprises an area of 735 hectares. Excluding house/buildings and a small area of frontal land this would allow an approximate area of 700 hectares to be developed as a forestry estate. There are some deliberate conservation areas to be excluded. Production and log out turn predictions on the 71 ha Lot are available (STANDPAK data) with all details recorded and certified by New Zealand Forest and Research Institute (Forest Certification). This procedure will apply to remaining forest and all future plantings. Te Puru stretches eastward off Waingake Road, rising from sea level to an average of 300 m.a.s.l. Contour is generally easy, allowing good harvest plan of 70% ground based and 30% hauler or cable logging. Main central track and side tracks give access to all areas for planting and silverculture purposes. Consequently, only normal track maintenance is required and roading cost can be deferred until a logging upgrade is required at harvest. |
