Meeting Notes (4/17/02)

Things went quite well for the Spring Fling.  With everyone's help, we pulled in 
$117.  Way to go!


Meeting notes (04/10/02)

1. Vote Results: President: Seth Carrig
       Vice President: Josh Hoyle

2. Chapter Participation Form: Seth developed a chapter participation form for chapter members and officers to fill out.  This form will allow chapter officers to keep up with the member attendance at various chapter and regional events.  In addition, this form allows members to list areas that they would like to work in. 

3. The National Convention: Seth introduced the results of the national convention in Nashville. We acquired Paragon advisor award for Dr. Weston, the distinguished advisor award for Ms. Granger Morris, and fellowship hallmark award for our chapter. Also Dianne mentioned that our chapter is within top 100 chapters.

4. Officers Academy: Jared and Seth participated in the officers’ academy at the convention this past week as well.

5. Guest speakers and district officer: Michelle mentioned that we had Mr. Gingritch and Dr. Patch Adams for some of the guest speakers in Nashville.  In addition, Seth told members that Shannon Matthis from the Carolina Region is now the new District I Vice President.

6. Anaheim: Next year's International Convention will be in Anaheim California.  We will need to do a lot of fundraising to earn money to send members next spring.

7. Gift Certificates: A member (matt) brought in many gift certificates to use for a drawing during the spring fling next week and to use as a gift for our Teacher of the Year (note that the Teacher of the Year will be recognized at the Student Awards Luncheon.

8. Five Star Level:  Dianne discussed the items the chapter has already completed towards next year’s five star program designations. 

9. Fundraising Goals: Seth discussed trying to earn $1,000 to give to Patch Adams for his hospital.  Seth feels that chapter will have no problem raising around $5,000 this year. 

10. Spring Fling: Drawings- Need to make tickets. Develop Games.

11. Printer Cartridges: www.tonerbuyer.com – members were told about a program where this company reimburses people for sending in their empty printer ink cartridges

12. Hands on Greenville: May 18th. Members discussed various service activities that the chapter can do this coming year such as, Hands on Greenville, May 18th ; Relay for life, May 3rd,5th.

13. Breakfast of Champions: At 9:00 a.m. Friday, 5/3 at Dr. Weston's house.  This is a planning session where members and officers plan most / if not all / of the chapter activities of the unpcoming year.

14. Phi Theta Kappa All State Academic Team: Phi Theta Kappa Academic Team Recognition was mentioned by Dr. Weston. 


Meeting notes (03/20/02)

1. Election: Sign up sheet was passed around again to look for some added positions. 

2. Spring Fling: Seth mentioned about the spring fling and encouraged members to participate.

3. Nashville: Participants of the national convention talked about the schedule in detail.

4. Fund Raising: We talked about having a dunking booth at the Spring Fling on April 17th. If we get enough volunteers to sit in booth – we plan to sell two chances for $1.00.  In addition, we are planning to have 15-minute shifts (if we have enough volunteers to sit in the booth).

5. Next Meeting: Many officers will be absent from chapter meeting – therefore, Stewart has agreed to lead meeting with the assistance of Jared and Rod. 

6. Election Schedule: Polls will be accepted either by e-mail responses or by ballots placed in box in UT 122.

7. The Teacher of the Year: The detail will be announced in next meeting.

8. The Student Awards Luncheon: Matt is going to bring some restaurant certificates to help raise funds for the chapter.  In addition, if we get enough – we hope to use meal certificates to go towards Teacher of the Year Award.

9. Phi Theta Kappa All State Academic Team: Phi Theta Kappa Academic Team Recognition was mentioned by Dr. Weston. 



 
 

Meeting notes (03/13/02)

1. The Regional Convention: Seth presented results of the regional convention. We acquired 13 awards including an $800 scholarship, and an award related to the America’s Promise.

2. How to get awards: Michelle explained to new members about essay criteria and what it takes to get awards.

3. The King Seth: Seth elected as Carolina’s Regional Secretary for Phi Theta Kappa.

4. The History Day: We made approximately $200 revenue from the fund raising.

5. Fund Raising: Dianne explained that we really needed to do fund raisings this year because we used most of our chapter money for regional and national convention expenses. Seth also mentioned that he would like to assign specific officer for fund raising.

6. Election: Seth mentioned that the election for officers is coming up in early April.  Sign up sheet was passed around.  Election ballots will be posted in Honors office and on email system.

7. Nashville: Dianne and Dr. Weston mentioned about the national convention in Nashville.

8. New Cabinet: Seth talked about overall structure of the new cabinet. Officer positions and plans for chapter organization, which will allow the chapter to stay ahead while preparing essays and yearbook.

9. Project Graduation: Dianne talked about donating children’s books and canned food.  Event will be posted on an honors mailout and on the Chapter email system.  We will possibly be setting up drop off boxes at the honors reception at Bi-Lo Center the evening of Graduation.


Meeting notes (3/6/02)

History day: Please bring chips or cookies to sell for the area-study students. Don't forget to put them in the zip bags. Also, please put a name tag on so the students can identify who can help them.

Regional Convention: Please get to the information building at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, 3/8 for those who are going to go to the regional convention. Also, do not forget to bring a nice dress outfit for the convention. Need a red, white, and blue outfit for Saturday.  We confirmed that we have to bring a chapter banner and door prizes to the convention. We also assigned a role of a voting delegate, Seth is the winner. Eleven members will be going to the convention.

Napkins: We painted a napkin for a retiring Phi Theta Kappa Regional Coordinator, Joanie.

Yearbook Title: We prepared an album, but it was a little weak. So we decided to buy a little more descent one. Also, we got a title plate. We talked about the cover design too.

Spot light: We talked about Spot Light. (What did we talk?) Students listed for Who’s Who

When we have to dispatch, use UPS because a member’s father is working for UPS.?????


Meeting Minutes for Wednesday 2/20/02 1:30 pm 

Present were: 3 advisors, 4 officers, 6 members. 

Collected and counted money from Career Day fundraising (approx. $90 profit). 

Further discussed Regional/International conferences and spoke with those interested in attending. 

Induction is on February 28 at 7:30pm in the TRC auditorium.  If you are being inducted please arrive one half hour early and if speaking at least one hour early. 

Fundraising Committee: History Day fundraising sign ups for Thursday March 7, 2002 (11:30 til whenever).  If interested in working send an email to Michelle or sign up outside the Honors office (room 122). 

Planning is underway for this years Breakfast of Champions.  If you are interested in an officer's position please plan to attend the future meetings on 1:30pm every Wednesday in Dr Weston's office or email Michelle, Tak, or Seth with area of interest.

Meeting Minutes for Thursday, November 15, 2001 

1.Present were:  advisors (Dianne and Sharmilla), officers (Michelle, Tak and Seth), members (Shannon, Kara and Jared)

2.Planned and organized the Monday November 19 (Founders Day) campus collection for Manhattan Borough Community College. 

3.Christmas adoption of two people from The Department of Social Services. 

4.Voted on members for chapter essays and continued collecting chapter pictures for scrapbook. 

5.Discussed the yearbook, timelines and essays. 

6.Finished preparations for the November 20 Satellite Seminar and posted notices on email system. 

7.Talked about the Red Cross volunteer orientation meeting. 


Meeting Minutes for Thursday, November 6, 2001 

1.Present were: advisors (PK, Dianne and Sharmilla), officers (Michelle, Tak and Seth), members (Jared and Kara) 

2.Discussed Hallmark essays and set a date to meet over break (1/3/02 at 10am). 

3.Yearbook staff needs more volunteers if interested. 

4.History Day volunteers needed to serve refreshments for fundraising (3/702) 

5.Continued planning the Phillis Wheatley end of program party (December 14, 2001 from 4-6pm). 

6.Found volunteers to help deliver food for the Honors Christmas party at the Westons (Friday, December 7, 2001 at 7pm)

· The following items were discussed during the meeting:

· Phyllis Wheatley Spanish Program 

·Discussed Military Mail Challenge from Alpha Epsilon Omicron and decided to hold off on participation in lieu of recent mail anthrax scares.  Will decide at future date if we should continue this project. 

· Newsletter to be published around November 15, 2001 

· Web page updates - once pictures developed plans to be made to scan into web page 

· Discussed Christmas service project: adopted one elderly person and one child.  Wish list will be divided up among members to purchase items and return on specified date. 

· Discussed Yearbook (scrapbook) preparations - new member Julie T. and Maria R. to work together 

· Discussed essays to be submitted in the spring: essays are to be worked on during regular meetings as a group effort once timelines are completed. (Additional time may be necessary) 

· Michelle making up a ballot of all prospective members to be chosen for Distinguished officer, Distinguished Chapter Member for upcoming Regional and International Essays.  Members in attendance at next meeting will vote. 

· Worked on timelines for this upcoming years Regional and International packets. 


Thursday 10/25/01 (1:30 PM) meeting minutes: 

In attendance were: 2 advisors (Dr P.K. Weston and Diane Granger-Morris), 5 officers (John, Tak, Laura, Esther and Seth), 3 members (Shannon, Elena, and Jared via phone) 

Regarding Hallmark Essays: Takudo elected chairman of the Hallmark essay committee. 

Phyllis Wheatley Learning Together: communities of the world project update--Spanish presentation by John and Maria on November 2.  Russia presented by Elena on Nov. 16. 

The newsletter is scheduled to be released on November 12. 

Michelle O'Malley and Takudo Abo have been chosen to represent Greenville Tech as  prospective Academic All-Americans.  Congratulations! 

Letter writing campaign: we will begin writing encouraging letters to servicemen and women abroad at Nov. 8 meeting. 

Christmas adoption of 2 local people in need.  Please work together in fulfilling their wish lists.

Thursday 10/18/01 (1:30 PM) meeting minutes: 

In attendance were the following: Advisors (Dr. P.K.Weston, Diane Granger-Morris), Officers (Takudo Abo, Laura Loder, Esther Brown, Seth Carrig), and member Kara Nichols. 

Financial Report: Esther acknowledges there is approximately $2,800 in chapter bank account. 

Newsletter articles were written.  All submitted by the end of the weekend to Laura for compilation. 

Hallmark essay booklets distributed to present members.  Anyone interested in helping should contact the President, Vice-president or Secretary. 

Phyllis Wheatley Learning Together: communities of the world project continues to run smoothly.  Tak will present Japan to the children on Friday at 4 PM in the center's newest building. 

The student government's Halloween Party is on October 31.  Chapter members have been asked to help volunteer.  If interested please contact Curtis in the Student Services office of the Student Center.

Thursday 10/11/01 (1:30 PM) meeting minutes: 

In attendance were the following:  2 advisors, 4 officers, (President, VP, Editor in Chief, Secretary) and 2 members. 

Learning Together:  Communities of the World project update.  The Greek cultural exhibition on 10/5/01 went very well thanks to student and advisor support.  Tak will be presenting the Japanese community to students at the Phyllis Wheatley Center on 10/19/01.  During the meeting, members practiced making paper cranes as Tak discussed lesson plans. 

Chapter Updates and Timeline Chronology addressed--reports shall be forthcoming. 

Weekly meetings--every Thursday at 1:30 PM in Dr. Weston's office have been established. 

Members will work on chapter newsletter at next meeting on 10/18/01.  Articles should be submitted before the end of that meeting. 

Hallmark Essays will be the focus of idle meeting time from now on.  Members will come prepared for essay work in the future. 

Fundraising Proposals:  ALPHA ZETA SIGMA members will compete in the SCTEA Student Community Involvement Project.  Michelle will pass along the information to those who are interested.  Pizza and soda sale for History Day at Greenville Tech, and possibly Engineering Career Day?  Detailed car wash raffle for faculty members?

 Greetings and salutations,
Thank you to everyone that came to the last PTK meeting on 7/26. The following summary should help cover details of the meeting (for those unable to attend).
Regarding the "Learning Together: Communities of the World Project" at the Phyllis Wheatley Center I can offer the following updates:
-We are still looking for prospective sponsors to purchase books. John is also trying to contact the Rotary Club about a similar book program they offer.
-Three cultural presentations have been outlined--Irish, Spanish and Japanese. (Crystal if you are out there please contact your community partner Tack--about your project.)
-Please try to attend as many "Learning Together" projects as possible. This will be a big help to everyone.
Future PTK meetings have been scheduled for 1:30pm on the following Thursdays: 8/16, 8/30, 9/20, 10/11, 10/25, 11/15, 11/29, 12/6. Additional events include: Orientation 9/6 at 1:30pm (UT Aud.), Induction 9/27 at 7pm (UT Aud.) Any amendments or further information should appear on the PTK calendar issued this fall.
