The Roman Army:
One of the many Greek ideas adopted by the Romans
was the use of weapons in wars. But, though a Roman commander had access
to the finest artillery engines of the time, the Roman Army's distribution
and acquisition of catapults was not well organized and, consequently at
times difficult. Paired with their tendency to rely heavily on the use
of its many well trained troops in battles and sieges, military historians
believe the Roman army's use of catapults was limited. However, on
noted occasions, such as the sieges during the
expansion of the empire, the Roman armies did employ the largest most sophisticated
catapults of their time.
