Welcome to The City of Joy -- Calcutta

Welcome to my home city -- Calcutta. I find this place to be the best place in the world and the city is really fascinating, bewitching and bewildering. Calcutta is the capital city of West Bengal, in India. Calcutta served as the capital of British India until 1912 and it is not surprising that one sees predominantly Western architectural styles in its many buildings and monuments. The city boasts being the largest metropolitan in area. In the three centuries of its history, Calcutta has grown from a mere fishing village into the largest city in India with a population of 10.5 million, and indeed, one of the largest cities of the world.

Landmarks of the City of Joy !!

Calcutta, more than anything else , is a city with strong cultural, literary and religious flavours. This is reflected in the ever increasing flow of activity in such diverse fields as fine arts, writing, music, dance and theatre. Equally there are many clubs and sport centres. The city today symbolises creativity and vibrance. The Calcuttans are avid fans of football and cricket. Life for me in Calcutta is great fun as there is always something to look forward in this culturally diverse city.
