In star topology, all the cables run from the computers to a central location where they are all conected by a device called hub.
Stars are used in concentrared networks, where the end points are directly reachable from a central location and when network expansion is expected.
Each computer ina star network commmunicates with a central hub that resends the message either to all the computers (in a broadcast star network) or only to the destination computer (in a switched star network).
An active hub regenerates the electrical signal and send it to all the connected to it. This type of hub is called multiport repeater.
