As is stated in the text, a teacher’s beliefs and expectations reflect directly on the classroom. Students definitely live up to the teacher’s ideals. All teachers MUST know exactly what types of behavior they will tolerate, and what types are "taboo". If the teacher doesn’t know what he/she wants, the standards will vary with the teacher’s moods. Students HAVE to know where the teacher stands and what he/she expects!
This is a classroom management style that encourages students to develop self-control with the main focus being on teacher-intervention and the acquisition of pro-social skills.
It avoids behavior problems! The teacher MUST have a plan of action, and be prepared to implement this plan before the students ever walk in the door. The teacher should plan around 3 areas included in the text: "withitness", "overlapping", and "maintain a group focus". These will help the teacher maintain control and avoid losing student’s interest.
