Wake Terms
I hope that this page will help you understand the terms in this sport. Some of these terms cross over with other sports that
influenced wakeboarding in the begining.
- Backside
- A direction of a cut with the shoulders open to the boat; the easiest cut
- Blind Side
- rotating or landing so that you can't see where you are going
- Double Up
- Boad circles around hits its wake at a 90 degrees (or close) to make a larger wake for the rider to launch off of
- Fakie
- riding opposite your natural way
- Fronts
- inverts where the board goes end-over-end
- Heelside
- same as Backside
- Indy
- grab on the toeside of the board w/the back hand around the back foot
- Load the Line
- tensioning of the line as a cut is made
- Method
- grab on the back of the board w/the front hand
- Mobes
- tricks when an invert is done, then a spin and a handle pass
- Nose Bone
- poke out one leg while bending the other in
- Raleys
- tricks where the board is flung out behind the rider's body
- Roast Beef
- grab between the legs w/the back hand on the heelside of the board
- Rolls
- inverts where you rotate back the way you came; your head goes down towards the wake you launched from
- Slob
- grab w/the front hand on the front of the board close to the tip
- Switchstance
- same as Fakie
- Tantrums
- inverts where the rider approaches the wake backside, then make an edge change at the top of the wake
- Toeside
- cut where rider's back is toward the boat
