Chicago's Buckingham Fountain is truly a landmark in its own right. This view is looking from the city side towards the lake. The center fountain blasts a hundred feet straight up without warning about every 15 minutes during the summer months. The water falls like rain on unsuspecting parkgoers during windy days.
This view is from the ground in front of Buckingham Fountain. Huge bronze sea horses and dragons spray water inward towards the center of the fountain.

This view is from north side of the fountain. The center jet of water travels a hundred feet into the air and rained down on the people viewing the fountain on the far side. One woman posed for her friend with her arms outstretched, giving up with a smile to the man-made rain.

This view shows a close up of the detail in one of the bronze dragons during the summer. Turned green by the weathering these beasties have sprayed cooling water to the delight of many generations of visitors.

On a cool October day the full height of the center spray can be seen. The fountain is brightly lit at night. Colorful light shows are sometimes staged with coordinated orchestra accompaniment.
