Lake Michigan in Chicago is lined with parks and beaches.

These are a few pictures from a walk along the Lake.

Below are thumbnails and descriptions.

Squinty Me in the bright July sunshine. Across this stretch of lake is the Monroe Street Harbor. Standing just in front of the Shedd Aquarium along the hardened shore break.
This view looks back the other direction. In the distance you can see the Adler Planetarium. This 'sea wall' curves upward and back out to splash the waves energy back out in case of violently bad weather.

The Adler Planetarium a little closer in from the same shore walk but this time in October. The sky has a much more ominous feel to it and light differences give the cold water a sullen and frigid look. Click here to see a live cam looking back towards Chicago from the top of the Adler Planetarium.

This breakwater is at the southernmost edge of Monroe Street Harbor. In the splendor of a warm summer afternoon. Sears Tower is the tallest building centered in the background.

October again. The cold winds whip the formerly calm lake into massive swells that easily splash over the four foot high breakwater. Nearly all the boats are gone. The sky has taken on its steely gray cloak for fall. This shot is from the steps of the Shedd Aquarium.

This is a nice shot of the skyline with a large powerboat. Must be nice... hahah

Surf's Up! With the whistling wind and an occasional crash you can see why they toughened the shore along Lake Michigan. Unprotected areas are forever being reclaimed because of erosion This mid October photo shows a smaller wave breaking against the concrete in front of the Shedd Aquarium. Late fall or winter storms easily break waves over the lower walk and against the curved wall with spectacular results. Perhaps I'll fight the cold to take some photos this winter.
