Coming to the U.S.

When I came to the United States in 1993, I came by airplane. The trip was four hours long, but for me it seemed to take forever because it was my first time coming to a new country. When I came to the United States, I lived on a street named Escuela because my dad was living there. It was my first time living in another place. The first few days were boring because I staying home doing nothing. Then I started meeting some friends that were the same age as me. One of them was Adriana. She was so fun because we would play a lot of nice games and it would not be boring because I had friend to play with and have fun with. My other friend was Mallory. She was 12 years old and I was 11 years old. She had a lot of dolls to play with. We would play mother and children as if we were grow-ups.

I felt really happy and safe living on Escuela Street because I had friends that I met when I came to the United States. They lived where my dad lived in the same apartments, so I had friends to play with. I lived in Escuela Street for four years. Then, I moved to a house on Fayette Avenue. I really thought that I did not belong in that neighborhood because it was so lonely and boring, like the wilderness at night. The people that lived there would not talk to you like in the other place I live. They would not talk to me and it was as if they thought I was going to bite them. There were no kids to play with. I did not like that neighborhood at all. Now I am living in a new house where it's more fun.
