Fairies
![]() |
There are so many view points about the existance of fairies. Some say
they are an order of spirit that has always dwelled in the land. Others say that they are
more akin to angels. Then again some say they never have existed. Fairies seem to be a type of people or spirits that have a close tie to the earth. There are many types but all seem to be tied with some aspect of the earth. Some are water fairies, some are of the forests, while others still are of the hills. Mainly when dealing with humans they seem to stay mysterious and confusing. On the whole they seem to want to help people. All thoughout stories they are taking pity on people and trying to aid them...but then there is also the stories where people anger them and are brought to misfortune. I found a few things of fairies that I hope can give more information... So, where do Fairies come from? Legend has it that when God created the earth, the Angels wept with joy at the beauty of 'His' creation. An though they all had Angel duties to attend to, some just could not leave this beautiful place. So God made them smaller. More human looking, and sent them down to earth to live. They no longer had the power of the Angels, but were given gifts of their own, to help them lift the hearts of humans and tend to the planet. They co-existed with mankind in harmonious tranquility. But mankind changed with degrees of awareness, and thought themselves superior to the folk of fairyland. They created boundaries that the Fairies were not to cross. Created order. Technology. The fairies retreated, practicing their art of invisibility to overcome this. They merged with trees. Some went to live in the water, becoming nymphs and mermaids. They blended into the natural environment and became part of it. Always intrigued by humans and requiring our assistance to live and evolve, they never went far from man. Due to the lack of understanding of our destructive nature, Fairies became withdrawn, and had little contact with humans |
| They still loved us though, and tried to sprinkle their magic dust to
help make our dreams come true. But history has shown we began to dream dreams the Fairies
could not make come true. We began to cut down trees, killing the Fairies that lived
inside. We polluted waterways, maiming and disfiguring those who lived there. We lost our
belief in things magical. The Fairies, realising they could no longer co-exist with us,
separated into different groups. The Elements and the Natural Spirits. Each helping
mankind, but in a more subtle way. Working mainly with Nature, they moved to secret
places, communicating only with children and the pure of heart. But Fairies long to walk
with us. Always carrying the remembrance of the joy we brought to each other. In the British Ilses there are particular legends that are told... Banks, forts and ancient hils are the traditional Fairies' abode. The gaelic word to indicate a Fairy is Sidhe (Shee), which means hill's people. At night.. you can often see the hills inhabited by Fairies shining of a myriad of sparkling lights. Sometimes the hill rises up on columns, revealing the lively lights of the Fairies who slowly move togheter towards another hill. It happens traditionally during Lammas period, expecially on August the 7th. Instead the Men of the Hill, also called Porcari, the most feared elfish people in Man isle, prefer to change their abode after All Saint's day. Wise people don't go around in those nights! Porcari use beaten paths and ways which usually go straight from one hill to another; centuries of thses movings has made an invisible elfish net throughout the whole country. Millennium by millennium the residual strength accumulates at the crossing of thses paths: these cross-roads are often near men's meeting places. Without any doubt it's not advisible for strangers to invade Fairies' hills(or to other places where they live)but, nothing forbids a discreet looking: a kindly disposed visitor can be rewarded. Fairies are reluctant to go out from their hill, but you can disocver the entrance turning nine times around the hill under the full-moon. The way in will be then shown. |
