Gnomes are often thought to be the kin of either Dwarves, Elves or
Fairies. In older legends Gnomes are said to be a type of earth fairy. Of all the fairies
it is the Gnome that is the most industrious. One legend tells tha Gnomes are fairy
shoemakers. Fairies love to dance and wear out their dancing shoes rather fast. Fairy
Shoemakers make the new pairs for the other fairies...for a price of course. Any human
that comes across a Gnome often tries to get the Gnome to give up his silver
treature..(payment acumulated from making the shoes for the other types of
fairies)..Gnomes will vanish the moment the human looks away. Perhaps this industrious
nature and the fact they do have treasure is what makes them seem related to dwarves.
Outwardly Gnomes look like Dwarves but are slightly less stocky and have longer noses.
Roleplaying games took this relationship a step further and made them truely related. In
such a fantasy setting Gnomes live underground like dwarves and mine and make treasures.
Gnomes tend to be more isolated from other peoples. They tend to keep to themselves and to
their underground home. They also have a great hatred for Goblins and such. |
