The Harpy
![]() |
The Harpy was definitely a Greek invention. There was actually three
Harpies according to greek legends, Aello, Ocypete, and Celaeno. They were the children of
the sea god Thaumas. The Harpies were the tools of the Gods. If a mortal did some act that
was against the Gods the Harpies would be sent forth. They would fly over the offender and
would tear them apart. They would then eat their bodies and defile them. Harpies look like old women or hags with the wings, and lower portions of a vulture. They have a vulture's legs, tail, and wings....while the upper part of the body is human. |
