The Hydra

hydra.jpg (13210 bytes) The Hydra was a monster out of greek legends. The creature resembled a serpent or a dragon with numerous heads. The number of heads vary from legend to legend.

Hercules had to destroy this creature as one of his twelve labors after he had offended the Gods. When he went to fight the beast he found that no sooner that he cut a head off with his sword that 2 more would grow back in it's place. Finally a wise man told Hercules how to defeat the monster.

Hercules had to burn the stump of the neck after he cut off the head or the

creature would grow more heads. During the battle Hercules did as he was told and cut and burned all the heads of the Hydra until it was dead. Needless to say Hercules went on to complete his labors.
