The Battle of Bunker Hill

On the night of June, 16 many American troops were sent to build a base on
Breeds Hill on the Charleston peninsula. The British saw the danger
at first light. If we would have finished it our cannons could have
drove the British war ships from the harbor leaving them to
starve. So the British sent a large amount of Troops to take
the hill from the Americans.
Following European custom, the British advanced to the hill in
tightly packed ranks. The Americans at the fort and along the
fence extending to the north shore cut them down in great
numbers. The proud British reformed their ranks and
charged again. They were again mowed down by fire coming
from the hill. On the third try the Americans remained silent. The British broke through the line and the Americans started running out of ammunition and had to fight with the butts of their guns and rocks
then they retreated. Shortly after the British took Bunker Hill. We may have lost the
battle but at least 1000 British troops were killed or injured. Only 400 American troops
were killed or injured. The British may have won the hills but we won the battle.  We
should all remember the great soldiers who fought bravely.  We should also recognize the
great leaders of the battle witch were Colonel William Prescott and General Israel
Putman and and General Greene who was quoted at saying I wish we could sell them
another hill at the same price.
