fox scout group

overview

A Scout Group of two schools, Greenridge and Fajar Secondary belonging to West Area, Bukit Timah District.

The Group is reputably known as the Fox Scout Group. Separately term Flying Fox for our Scout section, with the Elite Seals as Ventures and Soaring Seagulls for our Rovers. Scouting in Greenridge Secondary trace its root from Dunearn Secondary Technical School previously situated in Bukit Timah area. We were known as the Pathfinder, Tanglin 2209.

Scouter Lai : then traditional in ways, skillful and conservative. In 1992, the school was relocated to Bukit Panjang Area and renamed Greenridge Secondary. It was during our second year in the new building when the new Fajar secondary came to be temporary housed in the afternoon session. The captivating Scouting's items showcased during Greenridge recruitment drive caught the attention of a few Fajar juniors and they expressed interest to be a part of us. This prompted us, the possibilty for membership from Fajar sec1 and later, with the assistant of our DC Mr Andrew Chua, the approval of the school's principal to officiate our initiation.

In the beginning, when Fajar had its first member in 1994, meetings and training were conducted together with the Greenridge brothers. Fajar fully established itself when the school moved to its new building in 1997.

Scouter Lai : Thinking aback. I never know that the decision made during then possess such a historical significance to Scouting in Fajar Sec. (to this day, I still remember the spot where I nodded my head) infact it was decided with much reservation and serious consideration. We had our limitations, were lacking in resources and hands busy with progressing owns standards. To commit and devote in this other wholesomely unfamiliar venture (a little likeness to the unification of north, east Berlin) was both daring and required quite an entrepreneur spirit. Looking into their eager young eyes and to the continuous bugging of my senior advisors, I told myself, lets do it, lets bring Scouting to Fajar!

Among that early pioneers of the school were ASL Wong Zheng Yuan and ASL Chan Siong Kwai, both capable Chief Commissioner Awardees. We are determined to make good and commit our best. Those early days were indeed challenging, difficult that calls for fast and tough decision. Before shifting into the new Fajar building, we were all excited about the prospect of an additional "home", doubtful but pondering and trying hard. We could only relieve our hearts after successful request to the principal about our needs for a room supported with multiple convincing reasons. A tremendous boast to our morale and and initiative. I also remember issuing instructions to share our limited logistic among both schools. Many of our Scouts had to carry over spars, lashing, whichever requires manually on foot by hands, without complains!

Fajar set forth from nothingness to their establishment today and greater achievement in the road ahead. It wasn't easy coming this far, we had our shares of sacrifices but then, the rewarding experiences acquired definitely enhances the dynamism and further the aspiration of our cohesive spirit. Our determination to remain one.

Ventures and Rovers

Our Venture section was reintroduced in 1994 and Rovers was established in 1995 to offer a better and comprehensive training scheme and progression for our members.

Female Scouting

It was the dream of PLC'90 to establish a coexisting membership of girls in our group but our first batch of females were only invested in 1997. Today we have a reasonable intake of females annually.

We are bettering our management, and they will definitely be undertaking critical roles of responsibility and leadership in times to come.

Members Development

We do not have a Cadet Scout section although Greenridge primary is around the corner. Ideally a boy spend three and a half years as a Scout working for the Chief Commissioner Award, two years of demanding Venture training for the President Scout Award and lastly, season Rovers are appointed assistants to the leaders, helping with the day to day running of the group. Those who are outstanding in their commitment and responsibility and possesses great potential are later invited to join the leadership elite.

System

Fox Scout Group has a unique system of management as we are of a combination of schools.

The highest executive body been the Group Council and its members, which include the leaders and appointment holders (Rovers) are known as the Councilors. The Group is departmentalized in many of our operation, each separate function has a chairperson (Leaders) who oversea and coordinates the relevant activities in group level, while appointed assistants (Rovers) and secondary assistants (PLs) look after the ground matters.

We strive to be a model organization achieving professionalism.

Group Motto : second to none.

Scouter Lai : One Dream.
