My Homework for Week 3

I am going to use some pictures of Lighthouses for this weeks homework I enjoy the mystery and beauty of them. I have picked out three that are located on the Maine Coast. I hope you will enjoy them with me.

The Doubling Lighthouse

The Doubling Light is down river from the Bath Iron Works that produces Navy destoyers. Located on the Kennebec River it serves the upper end of Fiddlers Reach. It was built in 1999. The Doubling has a 300 mm plastic lens and is up river from the Kennebec Range of Lighthouses.

The Marshall Point Light

Marshall Point Lighthouse is located at Port Clyde, ME. It is a charming coastal village with few tourist traps. It is a retreat for artists due the photogenic characteristics of Marshall Point and this area. Many photo workshops are conducted from this area and it is the departure point for the Ferry to Moneghan Island. The Lighthouse built in 1823 has a 31 foot tower with a granite base.

Owl's Head Lighthouse

Owl's Head, Me is the home this lighthouse guarding the entrance to Rockland Harbor. It was built in 1826 to service the increased shipping due to the Rockland Lime Industry. There is long series of wooden steps leading from the keepers house up the light. The house is now a Coast Guard Residence and Owl's Head is a state park. The lighthouse is surronded by a aura of lore, especially the story of the "frozen lovers", two people whose ship was wrecked on this point in the blizzard of 1850.
