

Food is are fuel it provides use with energy to work and play. The food we eat acts as raw material to build cells. the food we eat is broken down by are digestive system and then transported to every part of are body by the circulatory system.
Are digestive system is a 9 metre long tube. The digestive process begins first in the mouth, where the teeth and tongue breaks up the food after it has been softened up by saliva. the food is then swallowed and traveled throw the esophagus to the stomach.

In the stomach the food is mixed in with mild acid that breaks the food down into a paste similar to porridge. The food then passes a little at a time into the small intestine, which is around 6 meters long. Her the food is broken down even smaller so that it can pass through the walls of the small intestine into the bloodstream. food that can not be digested through the small intestine is passed into the large intestine, there water and minerals are absorbed into the bloodstream. The solid waste (faeces) is then exited from the body through the rectum and the anus.
