Enzymes of Drosophila Eye Color
TLC Plate
NORMAL WILD-TYPE
1. Normal fruit flies found in the wild (hence, wild-type) make all
six proteins above from the 2-amino-4-hydroxypteridine.
2. Mutants lack an enzyme that converts the 2-a-4-h into its corresponding
proteins.
ROSY MUTANT
1. If we have a rosy mutant that does not make the enzyme XDH, we will
have a plate that is missing the violet color, which was located close
to the orgin (or bottom).
2. The rosy mutant does not make the protein called isoxanthopterin.
SEPIA MUTANT
1. If we have a sepia mutant that does not make the enzyme PDA, we
will have a TLC plate that is missing the orange color, which is also next
/ closest to the orgin.
The speia mutant thus will not make the protein Drosopterin.
