Praise:
  • For the many students who have been shared with, also for students like Chi who respond to the gospel
Prayer:
  • There are many details still to be resolved regarding Melbourne next year, please be praying for the prospective team members and for planning.

  • Remember Chi as he grows in his faith. Burton and Angela are both seeking, may their eyes be opened to find Jesus. Pietse doesn't see a need to leave the JWs, pray for understanding and an allegiance to God's word over the JW church.
  • Pray for our evangelistic efforts in finding open people and raising an awareness of God's word among all students. All the students involved in the six-week CE course with me.

SOME STUDENTS

Sorry for the quick pace below, but I want to introduce you to a few of the students I've had contact with in the limited space available - see if you can keep up.

"Religions destroy friendships" Angela wrote on her survey at O-Week. She was angry that her friend from school always tried to include 'religion' in the conversation every time they now spoke. After Ros and I spoke to her for some time we surmised Angela's friend was simply new to evangelism and sincerely trying only to let her close friend know of the hope in Jesus. Angela agreed to participate in a six-week course with Ros looking at the person of Jesus.

Chi is from a strict Buddhist background and has recently completed the six-week course. He placed his faith in Jesus and is now growing in one of our bible study groups.

Burton spent last year meeting occasionally with one of our staff, and has been meeting with me this year. Although he holds strong claims to Atheism, he says questions about God sometimes keep him from being able to focus on his studies. I guess this is a good thing, if anything was to distract him, what is more important than his wrestling with the claims God has made on his life?

Pietse is a French exchange student studying Chinese and Japanese. I was introduced to her through a friend Gael

Gael and I have been wrestling with the question of what heresies are important enough to require confrontation, and which are trivial enough to be overlooked? This question is complicated somewhat by Gael himself being a Seventh Day Adventist. Do differences in doctrine like their insistence that Saturday is the only true day for worship and a lack of belief in hell warrant arguing, or should I simply focus on "constructive" topics like evangelism in my time together with Gael?
SUPPORT RAISING

I am planning that by late June my support budget will be raised and I can focus all my energies towards campus. Oh yes, I am in the midst of the joys of financial support raising. Joy joy joy. Actually its not too bad, I enjoy spending time with people, its just that I look forward to the day when I can be on campus five days a week instead of three. Pray that the rest of my support will come in quickly.

Survey day: A few weeks ago, instead of studying the bible at our main meeting, we all went out to do evangelism. The week was advertised in the student publication as "Practical evangelism workshop: Scared of evangelism? Come join like-minded people…"

who also is from France and participates in Student Life. What I didn't know at first is that Pietse is part of the Jehovah Witness cult. The three of us meet weekly for two hours examining biblical texts concerning issues of Christ's deity and the basis for our salvation.
