WHAT IS HST? HST was the first ever telescope built to orbit around space. The Hubble space telescope was thought of in the 1940's, and initially built in the 1970's and 1980's. This telescope was an expensive project that was ready for operation in the 1990's. Scientists have studied that images taken fom outerspace by the HST will give ten times the better resolution than a normal earth mounted telescope. This is due to the structure and variation of the earth's atmosphere. The 2.4 meter reflecting telescope was released in low earth-orbit on April 25, 1990. The responsibilities to keep intact with the telescope was given to the Space Telescope Science Institute on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus who operated for Nasa by the Association Universities for Research in Astronomy INC(AURA). Originally Hubblespace Telescope was built with three cameras, two spectrographs, and instruments used for astrometric observations. Since the launch in the 1990, so far the telescope has been serviced twice. Originally it was meant to bring the HST back to earth, but instead NASA has managed to take a 'repair' crew to space. The telescope which orbits around the earth in 95 minutes, does not only take pictures but automatically changes it angles and perception to avoid any heat or radiation damages by having built in sensors. The HST is a solar powered instrument, therefore never needs recharging or any type of fuel. Through the images given by the telescope, astronomers have discovered new theories concerning about space and astronomical objects. The Patel Space Information Institute has placed a connection on the telescope that can warp you to the image that you desire. This project has been available for three years but has finally became open to the humans of earth. It has been a top secret United Nations government project for at least a decade. The reason to keep it top secret has yet to be searched, but researchers say that it may be to contact extra-terrestrials if they are out there!
