Melody

Here are some lesson plans and activities for the melodies in "Hoe-Down."

Students will perform the melody on the melody bells.

1. The students will a pattern for the melody on their knees.
2. The teacher will then have the students transfer the pattern to the melody bells using their fingers.
3. The students will then use the handle of the mallets on the melody bells.
4. The students will then use the mallets to play the melody.
5. The students work up the tempo so that they can play along with the recording.
 

The students will play the call and response melody on the melody bells.

1. The students will learn a pattern for the call and response on their knees.
2. The students will learn both parts.
3. The teacher will divide the class into 2 parts.
4. The students will play the parts with just their fingers, then the handle of the mallet, and finally the
        mallet.
5. The teacher will have the students switch parts.
6. The teacher will increase the tempo until the students are capable of playing along with the music.

Students will be able to perform the hand signs to the melody.

1. The teacher breaks down the theme into phrases.
2. The teacher does the hand signs for the first phrase for the students at a slow tempo. The teacher asks
        the students to repeat what the teacher did.
3. Teacher does the same thing phrase by phrase.
4. The teacher then puts the phrases together and has the students repeat the phrases.
5. The teacher has the students then do the entire phrase at a very slow tempo.
6. The teacher then increases the tempo for each time the students perform the hand signs.
7. Eventually, the teacher gets the tempo up to the tempo of the recording and has the students perform
        with the music.
