Report

The'98/'99 1st Girls Basketball season got off to a good start with a lot of potential in the team. The second half of the season was a Huge highlight for us as we were undefeated in the league. Our biggest match was against Westerford whom we beat 21-18 in a nail biting finish.

Once again we were unable to play against D.S.K as they pulled out of the league due to the loss of players.

We ended the season with an inter-schools tournament, consisting of eight teams, held at U.C.T. Unfortunately we lost in the semi-finals, 14-15,to Westerford who went on to take the gold. We were placed third, behind Hershel, who lost to Westerford in the final.

Congratulations goes to Stacey Broome who achieved an All Star award as well as The Most Valuable Player (M.V.P.) of the tournament.

The 1st Girls Basketball team consisted of:

Babalwa Adonis
Romy Alfino
Lizelle Baaitjies
Cheryl Broome (V.C)
Stacey Broome (C)
Gretchen Burgess
Nicola de Graaf
Stefanie King
Thozama Ngqakasi
Louanne van Riet

and were coached very enthusiastically by Jason Yon, a past pupil of Pinelands high School as well as a South African Schools Basketball player.

Girls Basketball continues to grow and develop at Pinelands High School.

We strive to be a world-class school, rooted in Africa, that facilitates a quality, all-round education in a caring and disciplined environment.
