Pinelands High School

Guidance Department

The Pinelands High School Guidance Department is led and controlled by a qualified Guidance Counsellor. Linked to the department are five Grade Counsellors and several other teachers with a counselling role.

The most important areas of activity in the Guidance Department are the Guidance Lifeskills Programme, the Care Network and the Peer Helper System. Counselling is available during the school day and also after hours.

The Careers Centre is a comprehensive library of career and study information, which is accessible to learners and parents alike, during and after school. It is run largely by a team of four Matric Custodians.

The department also develops and maintains links with outside organisations and agencies in order to enhance the work, which is done at school. The Mission Statement of the Pinelands High School Guidance Department is:

We care unconditionally for each child in our school and we are accessible when needed. We work honestly and openly with a guarantee of confidentiality to each child. We seek to work within the framework of the family unit. We form part of the sensitive, caring school team of teachers, tutors, standard heads and principal. We recognise, respect and use outside support agencies.

We strive to be a world-class school, rooted in Africa, that facilitates a quality, all-round education in a caring and disciplined environment.
