Kickoff Event -

On December 10th, 1999, Team 96 visited the LEGO company in Enfield, CT.
We all started off with a nice breakfast, courtesy of LEGO. Afterward, we were brought to a large room containing several boxes of LEGO blocks. We were then split up into five teams, and faced with a challenge- see who could build the tallest tower out of LEGO blocks.
Each team had a teacher or one of the LEGO workers to help them out. For several mintues, everyone hurried to stack their blocks as high as we possibly could. Finally, when time was up and the winner was found, we were faced with yet another challenge- every team had to come together as one and build a tower three times as high as the winner.
Sound impossible? It sure was. Everyone went frantic bringing all the towers together into one. In the end, we learned the biggest cause of our problem was the lack of communication between teams, and how important it really is.

After that interesting lesson, we made our way to the factory building... passing a beautiful scale replica of the White House made completely out of LEGO blocks!
Once inside, we split up into our teams once again, and were on to the neatest part of the trip. Accompanied by a LEGO employee, each team was taken on a tour of the factory. We saw LEGO blocks being made, LEGO kits being assembled, and even LEGO people being put together.
