Group Lesson Subject Matter: Phone Unit
Instructional objective: 1) When answering a phone, the student will use polite language 80% of the time 2) When needing to get another person in the house, the student will use polite manners to get the other person 80% of the time 3) When taking a message, the student will be able to write down all the information correctly 80% of the time 4) When having to call about an emergency, student will know all the information needed 90% of the time
Materials: Phone Personal information Construction paper Scissors Pencils Glue String Crayons
Procedure:
Monday (September 27,1999) I will talk about the proper way to answer the telephone and the language that should be used when answering the phone. I will have the students practice using a phone in the room.
Tuesday (September 28,1999) I will talk about the way to get someone else in the house when the phone is for someone else. I will have the students practice by getting one of the aids that is in the front of the room.
Thursday (September 30,1999): I will talk about the way to take a message when the phone is for someone who is busy or not home. I will have the students practice and write messages to be put up on the bulletin board.
Friday (October 1, 1999): I will talk about the different parts of the phone. I will have the students cut out and put together their own phone, to be put up in the hall.
Monday (October 4,1999): I will talk about what an emergency is. I will ask the student questions to see if they know what an emergency is. I will have the students practice. The students will start making their own phone books. They will work on them throughout the week.
Tuesday (October 5,1999): I will continue talking about emergencies. I will talk about the number that needs to be called when there is an emergency. I will tell them the information that they need to know when calling 911. I will have the students practice.
Thursday (October 7,1999) I will talk about how to use a pay phone. I will go over the differences and what they need to do to make a call using a pay phone.
Evaluation: I will watch the way that they practice. I will give hints or cues to help them improve their phone skills as needed.
Follow up: Continue practicing using the phone
