My Aunt Marjorie wanted to get me a book for my birthday, and she suggested Mists of
Avalon. I wasn't too thrilled, since I usually don't like books like this, but as soon as I read the first
paragraph, I was hooked! The realistic characters and the gripping plot were so different from what
I expected- something dry and boring.
I had the internet, but didn't use it except for email, and didn't know about free webpages (like at Fortunecity) or html, so I didn't have any thoughts about making a web page about my favorite book. Then, almost a year later, I started using the internet more, and noticed that there were no sites on Mists of Avalon. All the sites I found were analytical sites about Arthurian legends- very boring. So- I learned some html, and made this page! Ta-da!
Cool story: I was looking for something about Mists of Avalon on the net, so I tried looking for sites on Marion Zimmer Bradley. All I found was a Darkover site, and the site for her fantasy magazine. Thinking 'what the heck' I checked out the site for her magazine. The only thing there that I read was her biography, but I noticed a place where you could e-mail her. So, I wrote an e-mail, asking if she could send me pictures, since I don't have a scanner and couldn't get them anywhere else. Her secretary was very nice, and sent me a jpg of the cover of a new release of the book, only asking I put a link to the fantasy magazine (the link is under the 'about the author' section of my site). Then, a little while later, she sent me the jpg of the original cover- she scanned it herself! Isn't that cool, or what? I also gave her the URL, so hopefully she will check it out- maybe MZB will actually see it!! Wow.
Okay, its been awhile, and I havent really updated the page hardly at all, but Ive been feeling really guilty about it, so Ill start here! I have been pretty surprised at the amount of traffic on this page (I mean, its not THAT much, but a lot more than my other pages) and I have totally loved all the email Ive gotten so far. Mostly the emails are pagan/ Christian things (which I never get tired of discussing, in case anyone reading this wants to email me about it!) but Ive also gotten asked for help on essays, and one strange email where someone asked me the number of pages in Mists of Avalon... Ive had people tell me my site is a "hub for readers of this wonderful book" *blush* oh, youre too kind, too kind. :)
Anyway, this has all been happening pretty recently, and Im gonna start trying to update my pages... any suggestions for additions to the site would be highly appreciated. Im thinking of making a page for essays/ quotes/ whatever from fans of the book.. If you have anything like that, send it to me!! Also, please send me any related links you find, I almost always put them up. Or, if you have your own Mists page, be sure to send me that too. Especially to this one person who emailed me.. you had a site with this cave or something like that??? please send me your link again, I lost it! sorry! Any links to this page you feel like putting on your homepage are much appreciated... :) anyway, this is getting really really long, a big thank you to the people who have bothered to read this far!!!
